Neil Young's Making an MP3 Player

I admit, I'm a sucker for triangles, so aesthetically, I want one.

On the other hand, I wonder if the plastic for these will be made without using oil? Why has no one asked Mr. Young that question?

(I know the answer.)

Anyway, colour me interested. I could use a new MP3 device since my iPod's battery now lasts approximately an hour and a half.

Unless you're going to start buying the lossless music from their store, or converting your CD's to FLAC or something, don't bother. For just MP3's you'll probably be better off buying something cheaper and smaller.

It would probably be perfect for you then. Almost all the complaints I've seen have basically come down to whether most people can really tell the difference between mp3's and lossless and if it's really needed. The hardware seems to be solid, so it should deliver what it claims.

If I had the cash I'd pick it up. It's going to be $100 cheaper if you get in on the kickstarter, so if you want one I'd go for it.

Yes, my friends often make fun of me (and probably justly) for being an audiophile. I admit readily there's a chance I only imagine a difference.

I think it's a lot like high end HD video. There's a point where most people won't notice a difference. Even if you can't notice it, if you're a film buff and want the best experience possible, you're going to want it. If music is your passion, who cares if other people say you don't need it. The idea that you're getting closer to the studio quality recording the musician intended means a lot to some people. This player is meant for them.

I think that's well-put.
