I'm looking for good nerdy music as I in the last few months discovered Dr Steel and have been listening to Mc Frontalot and MC Hawking for ages and still can't get enough of The Historian Himself. So looking for anything of a similar nerdiness (nerdyness?) Got any favourites out there?

Edit: Examples added for people to listen! With their ears!

Ok This ones not a Dr Steel music video but it is awesome.

Holy shit a fellow MC Hawking/Frontalot/Historian fan. I'm sure you've probably heard of mc chris? He's pretty nerdy, but he's not for everyone (I think some people can't get past the voice). I also like Optimus Rhyme and (some) MC Lars. I'm also partial to Donald Glover (the black dude from Community) who did a cool album called Pointdexter:

One thing I'd really recommend, though, is the album Deltron 330. It's a futuristic concept album that I count amongst some of the most awesome hip-hop I've ever heard.

Oh, yeah, and Atma is fucking fantastic:

If you don't mind rap, there is an entire subgenre of rap music for nerds, dubbed nerdcore.

With artists like the aforementioned MC Frontalot, its a growing genre.

Personally I love MC Chris, YTcracker and others. MC Chris is friggin awesome, dude has a voice like mine but man he can keep up with the fastest rap songs you'd ever hear, and he is totally nerdcore (starwars, games, actionfigures, etc). PLUS, he doesn't care if you pirate his music. If you want to buy it from his site or any of his concerts, you can, but if you wish to torrent it, you have his blessing.

MC Lars is pretty cool

I'm a big fan of MF Doom. He is a really clever rapper who puts a lot of comic and similar references in his stuff. In particular, check out his collaborations with Danger Mouse (called Danger Doom) and Madlib (called Madvillain)

Not being a rap fan, here's some I like:

Vixy and Tony

Jonathan Coulton

Jim's Big Ego

i have some tracks from a band called Twin Sister that made original sounds using lines from the original trilogy. I found the CD on some blog as a link.

Do video game soundtracks count as nerdy music? I love Jared Emerson Johnson's work on the Sam & Max soundtracks. Mostly instrumental stuff (incorporating numerous genres) that's great to listen to while web surfing, but the few songs with lyrics are hilarious.

Thank god people included stuff outside of Nerdcore. I'm getting sick to death of a new MC Whatever coming out every month.

I HIGHLY recommend Jim's Big Ego.

I introduce... The Megas and their debut album: Get Equipped! It's basically a retelling of the events of Megaman 2 by Dr. Light, Megaman, and the Robot Masters in rock. Here's my three favorite songs from it. They also have an acoustic version called Get Acoustic which is actually even better than the rock version.

Level Select - Message from Doctor Light

Airman - The Annihilation of Monsteropolis

Woodman - Carved from Mighty Oak

Also, here's my favorite song from their crossover with Entertainment System.

Wily 1 - Look what you've done!

True, but he's also been trying to distance himself from the concept of nerdcore. He sees himself as a mainstream rapper who raps about nerdy things, not someone part of the "nerdcore movement" like MC Frontalot.

Powerglove is my favorite 'nerdy' metal; although Symphony of Science is AMAZING.
It kills me that I wasn't able to get down to Edmonton to see Powerglove when they were here. This is what I got when I bought their first CD years ago.

The Protomen

One of my favorite bands, and got to see them live last year at Bonnaroo. Still kicking myself when they finally came to upstate NY last month and I missed it.

Its a rock group that writes about a dystopian future in which Wiley rules, and Light builds Protoman and Megaman to combat him. Absolutely amazing stuff. Been following them for years.
