[NFL] NFL Thread

Well, the eagles showed up and we didn't. They did better than I would have expected this year, so hopefully next year is even better.

Absolutely the worst matchup for most of the country. Two northeastern teams that people love to hate for different reasons.

Mike Schmidt told a story of how when he went to pick up his kid at the school bus stop, the other kids saw him and started chanting “choke choke choke!”

Jay Johnstone wrote in one of his books that if a Philadelphia game were rained out, the fans would go to the airport and boo landings.

So, apparently the XFL is back, or it will be in 2020.
He's describing it as "NFL for republicans." Players can't have a criminal record and must stand for the anthem.

My theory: he sold 100 million dollars worth of WWE stock for this. He just wanted to cash out a bunch of stock but without a good explanation like starting a football league, it'd make people think the company is in trouble so he had to have a reason for the divestment that is publicly palatable.

Basically, Vince McMahon is going to spend a hundred million dollars to join Donald Trump's Kiss My Ass Club. Seriously, he couldn't be pandering to the Trump cult harder.

Also, players can't have a criminal record? Looking at professional sports, especially football, he's going to lose a lot of players very quickly.

Given his wife just served a full year in trumps cabinet, as such she would get some major tax relief things, perhaps this is a wash for the McMahons?

He's actually got time to go through and plan stuff, look back at what didn't work, and get people who really know football to get things together.

And he'll still end up failing miserably.

I actually had to defend the Eagles on twitter. I feel... unclean. Someone like Darren Rovell should know better, though. There was an NFL before the Super Bowl, ya know. 1960 still happened. They're not looking for their "first title," just their first super bowl win.
