I'm looking to sell some things, and there's a chance I may do so on ebay or some other online method. I don't have a manner in which to receive payments.
PayPal is probably the largest most obvious choice, but I have heard some things about it that give me pause. However, nearly all of the anti-PayPal sites I have been referred to connect me to the exact same page hocking the exact same alternative, which makes me think that I can't trust their reviews.
Sooo. I'm okay going with PayPal? What are the alternatives?

I personally have no issue with paypal. I use to sell a bunch of stuff on eBay. There are fees if you are receiving money for your goods (max at 2.5% of value I think) check out the rates. It is accepted world wide (at least in most countries) so it is pretty good. Plus since it is owned by eBay (unless that change again recently) you can ensure you will get your money and track your goods.

Having used them for many years, I've never had a problem, perhaps I've been lucky. After hearing stories about frozen accounts, I always withdraw the money as soon as it arrives.

I have used PayPal for years and have never had any problems
The only issue I've ever had with paypal is if you use it to "subscribe" to something (for instance, recurring payments on a rented ventrilo server), and then you cancel the service, you have to remember to go and cancel the automatically recurring payment as well. It doesn't work like a credit card where the service charges your paypal every month, rather it comes from the other direction - paypal just continues to pay them every month until you tell them not do so any more. That tripped me up when I changed my guild's ventrilo server. For a couple months, my paypal continued to pay for the old one despite my having cancelled it.

If I have any troubles with PayPal I call some friends of mine who work in the main offices. In fact, I know a BUNCH of managers over there.
Never had to, though. I love PayPal.

I can add my voice to everyone else - no problems.
I did notice a suspicious charge on it once. Went through their complaint process and it was promptly refunded.
Like make financial transaction companies, though, they favor the buyer over the seller, so just make sure you've got your ducks in a row for each sold item so if something comes up you can show pictures of the item, shipping tracking numbers, etc.
Good luck!

always had good positive experiences here, including a time they refunded me after an unscrupulous person claiming to live in Larry King's house, (I looked up his address from the shipping label) sold me some defective cpu's (claiming they were good) then refused to refund me the money.. they got me my money back pretty pronto.
I've never had any recurring payment that I didn't have to manually do (my choice) each month.
