Any hate for FFX and FFX-2 will result in instantaneous disemboweling with medical grade tools.

FF7 was fantastic for what it was. The "next gen" of Final Fantasies. While it's story left a bit to be desired, it had a very "Final Fantasy" feel and system in place that carried it very well (noone can forget it's story if they've played it through). What spawned AFTER that, is another story.

FF8 - Yeah, you guys covered it.

FF9 - Jay hit it on the nose. Freaking beautiful, wonderful, excellent Final Fantasy, till the 3rd disk

FFXI - Not a Final Fantasy

FFXII - I'm going to be giving this game a full try after I've knocked out a few games on my list, though to be honest, I keep putting it off in a vain hope that FFXII International will ever be released here.

FFX-2 was far too saccharine for my tastes and it had a REALLY cliched story... not to mention it's full ending requirements were asinine and required things from the player that they never would have known about without a fucking guide.
It also kinda ruined Tidus'es sacrifice at the end of FFX, by magically undoing it because Yuna ASKS FOR IT.
I mean seriously... that was crap.

Ok so I ordered FF3 and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin from Amazon.

I looked at some reviews and stuff on youtube for FF3 and FF4. 3 looked pretty sweet, 4 looked kinda "meh".

I got AW: Days of Ruin since it was $10, I wanted the first ds one, Dual Strike but the cheapest new copy was like $35.

I'm going to hold off on TWEWY, the gameplay looks interesting but I figure Chrono Trigger and FF3 will keep me busy in the rpg genre for a bit. I wanted to pick up Pokemon Diamond, yes I enjoy the core Pokemon games, Pokemon Blue was one of my fondest games from the late 90's on the original gameboy.

No. I mean I know ppl say FF4 is good, it brought the new battle system and everything but it just seemed cheesey, the main guy is a guard who dislikes the acts he has to perform for his kind and eh, it just seemed like a story I didnt think I'd enjoy. Plus I was wanting the harder of the two games and from what I've read here and online, FF3 is much harder than FF4, I like to get my money's worth from a handheld, either in hours of gameplay or difficulty.

Final Fantasy 3 DS is a terrible game and is easily the worst of the entire series.

The class system is never fully explained on how class XP is distributed or works in your favor and is very unbalanced, save points are extremely limited (the final dungeon basically has no save or recovery points), and the game is fundamentally broken. A good number of classes are only useful for a single boss battle with a gimmick, and then are never used again because they suck so much otherwise.

I stopped playing after I somehow made it to the final dungeon despite not actually finishing all of the plot important events (only three of the crystals were recovered/saved/however that worked I don't even remember) and not finding a single save point within the past two hours. Then I wandered into the final boss somehow and got killed in one turn.

It's got a really soothing map theme though.

Not only that, but describing Cecil as "a guard who dislikes the acts he has to perform for his king". Gah! That's only the plot for the first hour of the game or so, his motivations become a lot more complex as the story unfolds. Not to mention all the other characters, who all tie into the main story.

No really, FF4 just seemed..meh. I mean I can't say its a bad game, I've yet to play it, but the plot from reviews I've read just seems not so great. I generally don't pay much attention to the stories in JRPGs, I like the fights, the item collecting, etc. I can't tell you the specifics of the story behind Golden Sun 1 & 2 but I can tell you the fights were awesome, the battle system was sweet, etc.

Pretty much the only JRPGs I ever follow the story on was Chrono Trigger (my favorite 2D jrpg) and Breath of Fire 1.

FF4 is to be played FOR the story, so if it's lack of story in an RPG you're looking for, then probably should just play FF5. It's got probably the best class system and pretty weak on the storyline.

Actually, the story in 5 was alright. Weakest story in a Final Fantasy goes to 8. Unfortunately, that one also has the worst battle system.
