Racing game recommendation

I'm slowly getting interested in racing games because before I was never interested in them.

Yes I own a PS3 btw and I just ordered a used copy of Motorstorm Pacific Rift because I enjoyed the demo and off road racing.

Any other decent racing games I should keep an eye out for?

There are no good modern racing games outside of one or two titles on the Wii.

Step 1: Buy an N64 on eBay
Step 2: Get Diddy Kong Racing, Beetle Adventure Racing, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, San Fransisco Rush, Extreme-G 2, F-Zero X, Waverace 64, and Lego Racers.
Step 3: Enjoy the next two years, a lot of these games are really terribly hard but they're all fun as hell. Which is more than I can say for most current-gen racing games that are only moderately difficult and not fun at all.

I can attest to the two bolded titles... so much fun.

Burnout Paradise is pretty rockin'. It's not exclusively racing, it's more sandbox-style fast cars and vehicular mayhem, but I love it.

I think there's a demo version on PSN as well (maybe).

Thanks man I just was never into racing games much until I tried Motorstorm. The Need for Speed games seemed rather dull to me

I like Test Drive Unlimited just for how much road there is to drive on.

Burnout Paradise is pretty good... and while not the most fancy one, you can play Trackmania Nations for free online against other people and it's pretty fun.

But my favorite racing game is still burnout 2, back on the ol' PS2.

I should have remembered this one. I was still playing Stunts before I found Trackmania.

If you like realistic racing games, check out the demo for Grid. Good game, although it wasn't my style since I'm more into non-real-world-physics racing games :)

I like double dash because I suck at racing games. I can never get enough control to do well. So I'm always player 2 for my boyfriend. I'm really good at deploying shells and pushing people. :p

Is the Gran Turismo series still around/any good? My brother used to play the shit outta GT2.

Gran Turismo and Need for Speed series are great. The new Need for Speed looks amazing.

Buy a cheep car.
Come to Houston.
Pull onto Loop 610 at 7 am.
Try to make it around the city in 30 minutes.

It is the most racing fun to be had...

No Mario Kart 64 = insta-fail

That was on purpose, Mario Kart 64 really wasn't a very good game when compared to some of the other racing games out on the console, or any of the other Mario Kart titles for that matter.

It was an improvement over the original and I don't think Double Dash really improved on it. The Wii version is slick, though.

I played some of those others you mentioned and they were largely sloppier (Diddy Kong, especially) or just not as fun as MK 64.

Most of my friends that play console games are Nintendo die-hards and MK 64 is probably the game we logged the most time on back in the day. To say it wasn't a very good game compared to those others misses the mark by a fair margin, I'd say.
