It's time for another installment here, and this time we're getting spooky for the season.
The coming of the PlayStation and optical media for home consoles meant that games could start getting bigger and more cinematic. The ability to create true 3D environments meant that labyrinths could be made, and this made the popularity of horror games surge. But there is one game that stuck out above the rest, being so cinematic that it would stick with fans forever and truly put the evil within our residence, of you know what I mean.
That's right, I'm talking about Parasite Eve.
Yeah, fine, I did the bit again, but it deserves it because Parasite Eve rocks.
Made by squaresoft and based on a novel one of the developers wrote, Parasite Eve is a cinematic horror RPG where you play as NYPD detective Aya rushing headlong into danger to find out what the fuck is going on. And seriously, what the fuck is going on? Weird body horror shit, that's that. Apparently our cells mitochondria is sentient and revolting? I don't want to give away too much but it's bonkers and figuring it out along the way is half the fun.
But I lied when I called this game survival horror. It's definitely a horror game but it's very firmly an RPG made by square at the height of their power.

If you haven't, give it a try, even the sequel isn't bad. It's a shame they never made a third game... Never ever.
