Not a fanboi, I got a ps3 because it had the blu-ray player built in and I thought that would be nice. So that's what I have. I hate FPS with a passion, I didn't even like half life all that much. I loved Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, fallout, and system shock. For the PS3 I have bioshock and fallout 3. Any other decent story driven non-twitch PS3 games out there?

Metal Gear Solid 4 would be the first game I buy if I had a PS3. Though it'd be pretty pointless if you hadn't played the first 3.

Oh... 'cause I'd never gotten a chance to play the first three and thought, hey, here's my chance to finally play one!

Didn't know there were any... I assume not...
Is it 40GB version? (I think that is right) that is the only fully backward compatible. If you just recently bought a 160GB version, then you are "screwed" you would need to buy a PS2 (slim works) to play PS2 and PS1 games.
Now I am not sure if PS3 newest version play PS1 or not, but I know it can't play PS2 games (I tried)

Yeah, actually I remember reading that my version (80 gb) was not backwards compatible. I suppose I could get a ps2 but if I had money for a ps2 I could also just get an xbox...

The only backward compatible PS3 units are the original launch 20/60GB units, and select early 80GB units.

thanks, I couldn't remember. One of my friend has a 60GB( must be for some reason I thought it was 40 or something some weird number. I have 80GB which doesn't work) his works and happy with it :)

If you have a PS2 or Backwards Compatible PS3, get Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection/ It's got the FULL versions of all three games (which means Substance and Subsistence versions of MGS 2 and 3, which had extra stuff) and it's at a bargain price. That'll tell you everything you NEED to know about Metal Gear.

It's not FPS but Uncharted 2 is amazing. The Resistance games are fun but not a terribly deep story... still pretty good FPS (I'm not a big fan of the genre either mind you). I've been downloading cheap fun games from the PSN network... racing games, side scrollers, TMNT:Turtles in Time, etc. Fun stuff on there. Go download TONS of demos and play them, find games you like. It's free and awesome.

What are what? I mentioned quite a few games. Seriously man, go on the PSN network, look at the games and just start downloading demos.
Heres a good start list:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Little Big Planet
infamous
Prototype
Rachet and Clank
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Resident Evil 5
God of War Collection (not sure if they have a demo, it might just be a trailer)
Dead Space
Assassin's Creed 2

Go nuts man.

Thanks! Gotta get my internet set up first.

[edit: Are these ranked in order of coolness?]

You know, I just go on downloading sprees and get tons of demos and play them. See what appeals to me. It's hella fun.

Uncharted/Uncharted 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Assasins Creed II not I
Killzone 2:cool story otherwise dull multiplayer
Little Big Planet GOTY
Infamous:being evil was never so cool
Rachet and Clank: A Crack in Time
Star Wars: Force Unleashed: Sith Edition
Upcoming: AvP,Bad Company 2, Modnation Racers, God of War III.

Would not recommend either Resistance I or II. Although Resistance II multi was fun though

I would recommend Uncharted 2 first over Arkham if you want to get your money worth

Hm, is the Star Wars anything like Knights of the Old Republic, which rawked?

I dunno how much you like multiplayer in general, but I would be iffy about buying Uncharted at retail price if you don't. The campaign mode is freakin' amazing, but it's only 10 hours of amazing. Best rental ever, though.

Star Wars TFU is basically an action platformer, and very enjoyable, but even shorter than Uncharted.

If you like the first 3 Metal Gear games, MGS4 is fucking incredible. If you don't, or just don't like long cutscenes, you will despise that game. Personally, I love MGS, but the long cutscenes began really grating on me in MGS4, especially since MGS3 worked them in so perfectly.

Infamous and Prototype are both fantastic, as is Arkham Asylum. I would also personally throw LEGO Batman in there.

Haven't played Little Big Planet yet, but everyone I know who has loves it.

Both the new Assassin's Creed and the latest Prince of Persia are really fun puzzle platformers, and while you can blast through them, you can also spend hours running around collecting stuff for fun.

Dude Proptoype sucked. Infamous was better on all accounts. I've played both. I would recommend seeing if you can find a used copy of Uncharted 2. It's a must have.
Infamous was just cooler and well implemented than Prototype. I know I'm biased but I would rather have you play Infamous any day over Prototype.

There's been a pretty good list up there so far, the only one I don't see that I would highly recommend is Valkeria Chronicles.

Addendum: I also LOVE how inevitably in threads like this people say specifically what genres or types of games they hate, or ones they already have and people come in and directly point them to the genre they hate or the games they already have. Would it kill you to read the OP?

/rant off.

Did people recommend him the kind of games he hates? He said he doesn't like FPS but that he does like Bioshock which is a FPS. I think I'm the only one who said the Resistance games were decent and I'm not a huge FPS fan either. Not sure what there is to rant about.

Hmm never thought about Bioshock as an FPS. You could use your plasmids and wrench if you didn't want to shoot.
I would supremely recommend Little Big Planet goty edition though. It's an exclusive and its fun creating and playing out new community based levels.

If he didn't want FPS suggestions, he shouldn't have mentioned liking an FPS. It's that simple.

"Recommend me games like Final Fantasy XII. I hate RPGs."
"Have you tried Xenosaga?"
"I told you, I hate RPGs, why don't you understand me!"

Just the fact that something is first person doesn't make it an FPS either. If that were the case, Oblivion would be an FPS.
