Romelu Lukaku - A Portmanteau

#1

Dave

Dave

Romelu Lukaku - a Belgian soccer player - has said that his name is a portmanteau of his father's three names: ROger MEnama LUkaku.

My dad was Paul William Nihsen. That means my name would be Pawini. My son's would be Dapani. HIS son would be Zanani.

What would your name be? (If female you can use your mom's married name.)[DOUBLEPOST=1464107706,1464107602][/DOUBLEPOST]My daughter (using my wife's name) would be Keanni and her daughter would be Saloni or (if she marries her current boyfriend) Salose.

Repa. My girflriend's sister's son is similarly named after godmother and godfather.

Dave, three names are only common in specific religious groups. Catholics amongst others.

In the USA, sure.
Still, my wife has 4 names, sister-in-law just a middle initial (like Truman), took until the 3rd one before the standard 3-name happened.

CynicismKills

CynicismKills

Yeah my grandfather on my dad's side only had a middle initial, and I think my grandmother had no middle name.

Also, my dad's middle name is actually my grandma's maiden name.

Haha! I was thinking of my family nickname for me - Christa Bear. And luckily, no, nothing's attached to my face. >_<

Anmaga, maternally-speaking. And had there been a Li'l Z-ette, she'd be Lymach. I'm pretty amused by both those results.

Aw, Li'l Z could have been Milach, Misakach, or Sakach. Or would it be Chsaka, if we're going traditional Chinese with surname first.

GasBandit

GasBandit

The problem with this naming convention, though, is that for the male line, the first two and last two letters of the name will never change.

If Romelu does the same thing for his son, his name would also be Romelu (his middle name is also Menama). If Romelu gives his son a different middle name, however (for instance, I don't know, Howard), his grandson would be named Roholu. And then it just continues down the line.

I'm confused. In remembering his middle name, you seem to have changed his last name.

First name and two middle names, so I cut his last name.[DOUBLEPOST=1464179958,1464179803][/DOUBLEPOST]

I was thinking about how it wouldn't work if you had more than one child of each gender. Take @stienman's kids for example. All of his boys would be named after him.

#41

Celt Z

He could go the George Foreman route and make them "[stienman] 1,2,3" etc.

I wrote my dad an e-mail thanking him for not naming me Arhole. My stepmother apparently found it extremely amusing.

I'd have to involve barrel shifting for the first three:

Maadda <- Original
Addama <- Shift
Damaad <- Shift

Then I'd have to mix it up:

Daadma <- Last middle first
Admada <- Shift
Madaad <- Shift

But I'd still be short two names (as of this post).

So I assume she'd get trapped in a VR game that would have 14 really good episodes, and a bunch of needless crap interlaced with a FEW good moments afterwards.
