So, I assume everyone heard about the radio show that called the hospital Kate was at, pretending to be the Queen? It seemed like a non news story, just a prank.

Well, the nurse that took the call was found dead today.

This story took a very strange turn.

In this case, I can't see blaming the DJs. I mean, yes, they did a prank call and that call apparently went wrong, but the call was not malicious in intent. They weren't trying to humiliate the woman.

But I'd like to know what forced this woman to take her own life. What else was going on?

I guess they take their silly royals seriously over there.

I didn't know seppuku existed in the UK. I don't mean to sound insensitive, I feel sorry for her family, but it seems like such a weird thing.

It could be that the paparazzi and all the attention were too much. If she already had some depression issues, or something like that, it could have been enough to push her over the edge.

I agree that it seems weird, but the royals are an unimaginably (to us Americans) huge deal over there. Just look at the massive spectacle that was the Royal Wedding, or the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, or on a sadder note, Princess Di's death. I'd think suicide would be a bit far, but if I try hard enough I can imagine someone feeling so distraught at having betrayed the confidence of a member of the Royal Family who was in their care that they would consider suicide.

Wait, has suicide been confirmed? The BBC link makes no such claim, and I see no official sources giving a reason for her death. Which is kinda weird by itself.

Suicide doesn't make much sense after a prank, especially if she wasn't even the one that gave out the information. But true journalism seems to die around the british royal family, so who the hell knows.

I'm with Shakey here - she might have had some underlying stress issues that the unwanted publicity aggravated to the point that she felt no way out... Lord knows, people have committed suicide for sillier reasons.

Also, God Save the Queen.

I'd be less rankled by the British Royalty if they actually did wield supreme executive power, as opposed to merely being the UK's official inbred showpony family.

I find the media reactions to this kinda funny, in a morbid way.

Nurse tragically commits suicide after prank... IS KATE OK?
