Really I'm on the fence about the whole thing. On the one hand said beef may be better quality due to less pigs to take care of. On the other hand...its expensive and may end up ruin a big faction of the food industry.

Really they should be doing this with the beef industries, for a multitude of reasons. 1.) Cleaner cows. 2.) So big beef will stop MURDERING THE FUCKING RAIN FOREST JUST TO MAKE ROOM FOR A COUPLE MORE COWS THAN NORMAL! Sorry to go on a rant, but its still a thing.

Considering that the pork lobby has been lobbying hard to think of new ways for people to consume pork for a while now, combined with the fact that we've been living in a pork glut (of sorts) for the last 10 years or so, I have to say a pork collapse was going to happen sooner or later.

Now if only we could convince ranchers to look more seriously at miniature cattle, we might be able to do something about the whole "not enough land/feed to support our beef habit" thing, too. People might have to get used to eating cuts of beef that weigh less than 3lbs in one sitting, though.

People eat 3 lbs of beef in one sitting? That's a thing? Man have I been missing out.

I am also full on board with miniature cattle, especially since hundreds of years ago cows WERE that small. TYW(Thank you wikipedia).

Turkey bacon is actuallly delicious. Still not as good as regular bacon though. But a much healthier alternative.

However, I still try to eat as little meat as possible, and try to keep it to only once a month if I can help it. So this won't effect me too much.

Fear not, friends, for free market will come to the rescue. A supply shortage only means that the price will go up, not that bacon cannot be found. It is only some who will need to economise somewhat on alternative spending in order to obtain bacon, in accordance with their priorities.

The exception being all that diet Pepsi. If they could figure out how to get that out of there it would help.

Also,
Looks like Canada won't be hit too hard in this bacon shortage.
"I think that's hogwash," Rosemary Smart, international marketing programs co-ordinator for the Canadian Swine Exporters Association (CSEA) told QMI Agency. "In Canada it's not an issue at all. We export a lot more meat than we can consume. If our (Canadian) consumer wants to eat pork we have a supply in Canada."
Maple Leaf Foods, the second-largest processor of pork in Canada, says that although it expects hog supplies to shrink in 2013, the decrease in numbers should be modest.

Considering the EU is still paying Belgian and French farmers to destroy their lifestock (including pigs) and/or not work their land for lifestock, because of the crazy oversupply and its bad effect on prices....I think we're ok over here.

Just, FYI, not all Canadian police are RCMP. Some provinces have their own provincial police and or municipal police (In Ontario, the only time I see RCMP is if it's something ceremonial, or if I'm in Ottawa).

Not a fan of stouts either. Don't really mind the taste, but man they fill me up.
La Fin Du Monde is a Belgian style ale. It's 9%, but not at all dark and not very heavy. It's also won more awards than virtually any other Canadian beer. By all accounts I've heard, Unibroue beers are all amazing. Only one I've tried is La Fin Du Monde though, they're hard to find in Ontario.

Back to the matter at hand: Yup, bacon shortage is wildly overblown. Gee, who'd have guessed?
