The Extended edition of the Two Towers actually gave a reason and justification to the complete characterization change they made to Faramir. I hated what they did at first, but those scenes actually made it ok. There's a few crucial scenes from the book that are included in the extended editions, making it worth watching.

I'll get these movies on Blu-Ray at some point in the future. (My TV is not HD enough, and I don't own a BR player.) Because these are pretty much the type of movies Blu-Ray was meant for. BIG, LOUD, AND DUMB with a bunch of EXPLOSIONS.
