[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Honestly, a wall seems like EXACTLY the kind of terrible idea the "suits" would come up with. That never felt like a false step to me.
This. It's so much cheaper and easier than building GIANT ROBOTS, and can be used to oppress your population by withholding foo if they don't work it. This seems exactly like the kind of thing they'd dream up in a boardroom.

Same here. My husband thought it was a 'hope' project to distract thep ublic from the fact they were basically all going to die and to prevent rioting.

Monsters vs. Aliens

Entertaining, had plenty of funny moments/in-jokes for the adults (as well as plenty of references and blink-and-you'll-miss-'em sight gags), and I'm sure some of the good dialogue was from ad-libs. Also a side order of fetish fuel, but what do you expect? The movie could've been tighter, I think. It was obviously played mostly for camp (with a small side order of feels), but there were plenty more opportunities it could've taken. I would not be averse to a sequel.

Apparently Guillermo Del Toro is quite receptive to the idea.
I've heard, and I hope the new Godzilla movie isn't just a good trailer disguising mediocrity so that we will get at least 10 new Godzilla movies afterwards ONE OF WHICH being a Pacific Rim crossover.

Walter White in a Jaeger fighting Godzilla.

"I am the Gypsie Danger!"

So Hulu apparently put the kibosh on people using VPNs to access content on their service, calling the people doing it VPN pirates. I might be mad if WWE or Netflix follows suit (I know WWE won't, since they can't afford to lose subscribers).

Jeez, and I wonder why the industry is so loathed.

Won't matter with the WWE Network soon hopefully. With Wrestlemania a technical success, they should be rolling out internationally soon I would think. Certainly Canada should be high on the list.

Their recent investor conference call says by the end of this year.

Good gods, I should've listened to Charlie.

No, not about Spider-man, what everyone's been saying about that is what I expected. I mean, I should've watched Godzilla movies last night. Instead I changed my mind back and watched Dragonslayer.

Let's start with that this movie was stupid, and while some of that is a charming 80s fantasy kind of stupid, other is just storytelling dead ends or "well, that rendered the middle 40 minutes of this movie pointless". And that ending. It's like they had no idea how to end it, so they just threw in a bunch of weird crap and a shit-eating grin. The ending reminded me of a 60s live-action Disney film in how trite it felt.

The dragon effects are good when the camera is zoomed in on the puppetry. It's a great design. Even the stop-motion is fantastic, probably some of the best I've ever seen. The dragon creeps fluidly through the tunnels and I wasn't entirely sure how they'd pulled it off at first, since the closest you had to CGI in this movie was shining lights. Unfortunately, the cleaned-up film which probably was a bit muddier on VHS makes the blue screen effects really jarring and obvious, so any time it has to interact with the characters and isn't life-sized, it's jarring. The flying scenes from Superman the Movie are more convincing. Which is a shame, because again, when they're not overreaching, the dragon looks fantastic.

The effects stuff wouldn't have bothered me if the story had been done better, and I'd have given the story a pass if I thought the effects had made the movie at least worth a watch. Neither was the case.

You should follow this up by watching Dungeons and Dragons. Then come back and tell us which movie made the other seem better.

Fun fact: I have seen Dungeons and Dragons multiple times. Always with friends and always to make fun of it. It's at least good for that.

Snails dieing is always a cause for celebration.

I saw Dragonslayer for the first time last year. The only good thing about it was the dragon. The rest of it was pretty forgettable. Peter McNicol has been good in a number of movies, but that isn't one of them.

Knights of Badassdom:
Ever since Dave brought this to my attention I've been wanting to see it. Apparently it wasn't that big of a draw because I decided to wait to rent it until I had some gamer friends over to watch it with me, or to see it free. Well Xbox video has it as a free movie weekend deal, so I figured, what the hell?

It's one of those cases of a great idea wasted on an independent film. There are some decent, practical monster effects later in the film, but the script and some of the jokes just fall flat.
So why did I still enjoy it?
A movie like this reminds me of my youth; staying up late and watching B-Grade 80s horror films. And that's exactly what this is, or at least what it's trying to be. People wandering out into the dark of the woods for no reason, just to be fodder for something monstrous. Corny dialogue. Cheap-grade effects. Some quirky humor Then follow it up with a heavy metal ballad during the credits. The fact that it's based around LARPing just makes it even funnier with me, because it is close to my personal interests. The very ending of the film is perfect in my opinion.
Joe destroying the demon by performing a Metal song to summon the dead Hung to kick it's ass was just perfect. Reminds me a lot of movies like Rock and Rule and Tenacious D.
I say get some friends together, ask them if they want to watch a silly movie, and have some fun with this one.
