[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

I really liked Kung Fu Panda 2, the Po origins were beautifully animated and it's great to see him struggle with where he fits in the world. I think for me, it beats out the original by a hair.

KFP2 was well done. The bad guy wasn't as threatening as KFP's, but the artists really used color well. The traditional animation in the flashbacks was a really nice addition.

KFP2 was a pretty emotional movie for the wife and I as it was in the middle of our adoption efforts and a significant subplot of the movie was Po dealing with 'who he is'

One Upon a Time in the West
I'm sure I've talked about it in this thread already. I friggin' love this movie. When I first watched it I found it boring, though visually genius. But now I just love it. It's amazing on every level, but especially in it's technical execution. The cinematography, the themes and imagery throughout, the score, the sound design, all just perfection.

Never watched either one....
I still haven't seen Raging Bull. Taxi Driver seems pretty up your alley.

It was REALLY good, just not at all what I expected it to be. I'm going to have to watch it again now that I know better.

The more I think about Taxi Driver, the more it reminds me of American Psycho. Only, while American Psycho looked at the rich urban yuppy lifestyle and the lies and the mundane day-in-day-out life, Taxi Driver looks at the polar opposite class of society, looking at the working class, the poor, and urban decay.

I REEEEEEEEEEEALLY want to see that movie. I told a friend of mine about it and sent her the link to the trailer on it's opening weekend. She was like "We need to see this together."
Then she went and saw it the next day without me.
Huhrumph.

I wonder if it's on netflix...
*edit: nope. :okay:

I think the last movie I saw was PotC: At World's End (last month). It is cinematically amazing, has incredible effects, and require a suspension of disbelief bordering on the supernatural. And it had Keith Richards, which was smirkworthy.

Well, when comparing Casino, Goodfellas and Scent of a Woman, one thing is definitely for sure: One of these things is not like the others.

The Breakfast Club
I had never seen it before. My sister warned me that it's not just very overrated, but it's flat out boring. I can agree with her that it's maybe overrated, but I actually really dug it. Surprisingly enjoyable considering there's very little actual jokes or anything.

Also Allison was way cuter before Molly Ringwald dolled her up at the end.

Yeah, I found TBC the opposite of overrated or boring, then again I did watch it the first time as a teenager and really did connect with the situation as I was a repeat "detention attendee".

Watched Twelve Angry Men and Bridge over the River Kwai.

Both very enjoyable, but subject to "What are you watching?!" comments from the ME3 crowd.

A friend of mine went to China. Came back with a copy of Battleship.

Oh. God. This was BAD. I mean, REALLY BAD. The dialogue is terrible, the acting terrible, the humour humourless (with the excpetion of a slap stick scene at the very beginning), and everything about it made no sense.

Stay away from this movie! This is someone trying to imitate Michael Bay...that thought should scare the living PISS out of you.

The only good that came from watching it was riffing it with my group of friends.

is it true that (battleship spoiler) ((I feel stupid spoiling this))
the climax is a bunch of WW2 vets randomly joining the fight again in some ship and blowing shit up even though they are like 100 years old

Don't forget that they somehow bring the USS Missouri (aka the titular "Battleship") back to combat ready status even though it's been a decomissioned museum ship for a long time.

X-Men: First Class
Even though I heard a surprising amount of positive feedback on this one, I refused to believe it was any good. I was wrong. It was very good. Not "BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER" good, but pretty damned good. Streets ahead of what I expected.

It's definitely awesome bad, as was Aeon Flux.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on both Aeon Flux and Ultraviolet there, Shegs. I watched the former completely and thought it sucked monkey balls. I only saw the beginning of the latter and decided not to torture my eyeballs any more.

Just how I see it, naturally.

Yeah I greatly hated Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux. I got them both as free HD-DVDs (yeah, stop laughing, I lost that gamble), and I vaguely recall one being fun to laugh at and the other being "fuck my life"

ALSO I really liked X-Men First Class. I was able to forgive some of the in-joke clumsiness for a pretty good narrative. Michael Fassbender was electric. Jennifer Lawrence is also one of my favorite actresses.
