[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Went and saw Muppets: Most Wanted. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. If we're comparing them to the original films, it was comparable to The Great Muppet Caper in quality.
Which makes sense, because the one before this was basically the first Muppet movie. It's making money at least, so the franchise might not be dead... again...

Man, I loved the Great Muppet Caper as a kid. Glad to hear it's at least that good.

Thor 2: The Dark World
It was enjoyable, but I always felt Thor was one of the weaker films in the series. There were some good bits, but generally I didn't feel like very much was at stake. I still find it rather hilarious that these Marvel movies are all connected, and yet only one super hero per cataclysm apparently. Heck. They even hint at S.H.E.I.L.D showing up, and they never did. What? Fury had his good eye on a completely different monitor?
The Captain America cameo was brilliant though. Not a big fan of Loki killing off Odin so easily.
And can anyone explain to me how the 9 worlds work in relation to the galaxy as a whole?

There's no indication that Loki actually killed Odin. I don't know where people are getting that. The only possible indication is that he's holding Odin's spear, which we don't even know if it is actually Odin's spear or not. Loki is all about illusions.

Just saw The Grand Budapest Hotel and absolutely loved it. Ralph Fiennes was magnificent and it took me forever to realize he was Voldemort.

DetentionMan, that was weird. I think I liked it??? I don't even know. It was described to me as "If Scott Pilgrim were a girl in a serial killer movie", and that's not far off the mark. It gets oh-so-much weirder though, and you really have to just laugh at the ridiculousness and let it take you for its warped ride.

Teeth
I thought this was supposed to be a horror-comedy, but it was neither a comedy nor a horror. It just makes you feel uncomfortable. And not for what you might think from the premise. It makes you uncomfortable because its just a series of rapes/ sexual assaults. Dudes getting body parts bit off by a toothed- vagina is not the horrific part. Every one of them deserves what they get. It is well made though; if you feel like being incredibly uncomfortable for a day or two, maybe give it a go.

Evil Dead (2013)
Pretty good modern-day take on The Evil Dead. Compared to 99% of horror movies made today, some of the imagery is kind of fresh. It does lack the charm of the first Evil Dead, and makes no attempt at anything close to the humour of Evil Dead 2, but all in all it was pretty good. Worth the watch, and even worth the buy, at a discounted price.

Noah was swell. It had some pretty stunning imagery, and fuck off if you don't like the creation part. That was gorgeous.

according to my roommate who a big Thor fan, when Loki takes over in the comics, he traps Odin in the Destroyer Armor.

I'm on a Quentin Tarentino kick at the moment. Watched Reservoir Dogs, Django Unchained and the Kill Bill movies. How does Quentin Tarentino manage to get great performances out of absolutely terrible actors?

Just saw Winter Soldier. I think that this is the superhero movie that non-comic fans need to see (really either of the Cap movies). This Cap series has done a great job of showing how varied comic stories can be.

Just saw Winter Soldier.

OH MY GOD THAT WAS AMAZING

That is all.
So, didn't like it, huh? That's a shame.[DOUBLEPOST=1397355820,1397355757][/DOUBLEPOST]

I don't know if I'd call the ones you listed as terrible. I don't think Thurman, for example, is a bad actress at all. She just seems to excel in Tarentino movies mostly because it's obvious he's obsessed with her. :p

I just saw it last night too. Jun nearly jumped out of her seat with the reveal that

Bucky was the winter soldier. She doesn't know the comic book lore, so it was a great moment.

I kind of want to see it again. I think Marvel studios have done a great job with Captain America.

WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE, DC?

I heard a very audible gasp at the reveal from about a third of the audience when I saw it last weekend. It was rather cool to know they hadn't been spoiled of the moment.

The Croods: Man, Dreamworks has really been overshadowing Pixar these days. This movie's funny, heartfelt, imaginative. Would've loved to see Nic Cage in the recording studio for some of the noises he made for this. Lots of good moments. This was a good movie.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters: ... and this was not. Not at all. Studio Power Ranger-villain noises from the witches, fireball effects that looked like they'd been pasted to the film a la a low budget web series, and everyone was giving a hammy performance of some kind, except Jeremy Renner, the only actor who delivered his lines as if this was a good movie. It still wasn't, but he made it funny that way.

The Ninth Gate: Back when this was in theaters, the trailers that I remembered made this seem a lot more ... hell-y? Instead (fortunately) we got a pretty good Roman Polanski film with a noir kind of set up, with Johnny Depp as a "book detective" authenticating a text supposedly co-written by Lucifer. Couple things near the end were less explained in the movie and apparently better explained in the book, but overall it was engaging and worth a watch.

IMO, she's one of the worst actresses in Hollywood. Her performances are so wooden, they make Pinocchio look like a real boy.

Travolta has more luck than he does talent, though I will admit he was good in Get Shorty, but little else.

Madsen is admittedly the most talented of the group I mentioned, but he's hella uneven in his performances.

Yep Yep and Yep.
Madsen's best performance ever though was in Kill Bill for sure. Bud was probably the most real character in the whole movie.

Homefront. The usual type of movie Jason Statham does lately, ex-military/cop tries to have a quiet life, can't, kicks ass all over the place instead. Solid action.

Anchorman 2. I found it pretty funny, but the first is still a better movie. This one wasn't afraid to get a little weird towards the end, which worked here and there, but not throughout.

Homefront had me hooked with "James Franco playing a villain named 'Gator' ". and I guess it delivered on that premise.

Which version of Anchorman 2? I have all three and can't decide how to go at it.

On the topic of John Travolta - he was pretty great in Grease, Blow Out (Brian De Palma way early thriller, it's a criterion collection release!), and Saturday Night Fever (I think he got an oscar nomination???). I also kind of liked him in Primary Colors, Hairspray, Savages, and Broken Arrow. There's a difference between being a bad actor and taking shitty roles/movies. OH and he was the best part of the Thomas Jane Punisher movie, but that is faint praise.

To me the Supersize sounds the best since the two things he said they cut back on were the two things they most needed to cut back on.
