[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Or how about the lyrics to Giant Woman?

"You might even like being together and if you don't it won't be forever. But if it were me, I'd really wanna be a giant woman,
A giant woman!"

That's CLEARLY foreshadowing Stevonnie.

The ending theme of show also changes over the first season, adding more instruments every few episodes and changing it up every once in awhile for semi-important episodes (like Watermelon Steven does a percussion focused one). The non-canon Uncle Grandpa episode gets a theme in the style of his show. However, some of these changes are deeply foreshadowing. It's too bad the ending is almost always played over on Cartoon Network so you can only see/hear these on the DVD.

The Message gets heavy synth tune to signify Greg's involvement and ends with static. Political Power (the next episode) is nothing BUT static over the guitar to foreshadow the arrival of the Homeworld Gems in The Return next episode.

Of course, not all of musical foreshadowing is GOOD. For instance, if the ending theme lyrics are foreshadowing something... well... it makes one of characters look even worse.

One of the main issues I have with Rose in the series is that every good thing we hear about her comes from people completely in love with her. Amethyst never talks about her because she resents that she's gone (though she doesn't blame Steven and likes him for what he is) and Garnet only ever talks about what she could do (because Garnet wasn't fighting FOR Rose but herself...err... each other...). Compare this to Pearl, who was so deeply in love with her that she only learned to fight to protect Rose (even if she didn't need it). Pearl has never said a bad word about Rose, ever, but is this because there weren't bad things or because she just refuses to bring it up?

Oddly enough, Greg is the only one to talk about her negative traits... probably because he's the only one who was going to force her to change, even if he accepted she was flawed. But if this experiment with Steven was just a way for Rose to learn what "love" really was, then I kind of hate her for it.

At any rate, we're not getting more episodes for about a week (StevenBomb 3 is July 13th-17th). The line-up for the Week of Sardonyx is...

On the end theme lyrics
They certainly pertain to Rose (why this is up for debate on Tumblr is baffling to me), but I don't think they mean she's just trying to sort out what love is. She seemed to already get that from the Lion 3: Direct to Video episode. I think it's more about the impossibility of living up to people's image of her. I don't think this glorified view of her is purely posthumous--Pearl clearly felt that way before the war. Considering Rose led a force strong enough to fend off the homeworld, I doubt Pearl was the only one. She was just the only one to survive. Considering Rose dedicated time and energy to trying to heal the damaged gems that Garnet keeps in her room, Rose may have even felt guilty that she couldn't be the image that most saw of her, and that most of her friends died for an idea, a Rose Quartz that could never exist. Gem or human, no one is as perfect as she at times has been made out to be.

Humans on AMC is getting strong quickly, and a few real surprises. It's found its feet pretty quickly for a new sci-fi series.

Well I've finished Ben 10 Omniverse...so many words to describe it. Its by no means bad, hell I was able to have a lot more fun watching it than Alien Force or Ultimate Alien, but even so the last seasons didn't do what I actually thought AF an UA did right in having a proper overarching plot. Omniverse was almost en-TIRE-ly stand-alone episodes which I personally debate whether that makes it better or not. My one major plus is in all honesty, Rook is kind of a more interesting partner to Ben than adolescent Kevin and Gwen. Alien? Yes, but by strength standards he's basically a normal dude working with a superhero trying to keep him grounded all the way. FINAL SPOILERY NOTE-
I feel they could've done a LOT more with Skurd, with him he could combine the powers of any two aliens, its a freaking GOLD mine! But I guess the fact that it sparks the imagination in those who view it is a positive so whatevs.

Either way, not the greatest closure point for the series but a good one.

Yeah, that was kind of my feeling with Omniverse too. The overarching plot wasn't great, Rook was cool but he never played off Ben like Kevin or Gwen did, and the art style change was unneeded. But it's not the finale of the series: we're getting another Man of Action produced Ben 10 show in 2017/17 (and we're even getting a Generator x alum with it!). Not surprising as the toys sold a shit ton.

They are apparently going to be involved with the upcoming Mega Man show too. It's also slated for 2017.

Alright, we've officially reached peak Animation saturation in this thread. It's probably time to do a "What Cartoon's are you watching?" thread or, even better, turn the Anime thread into an all purpose Animation thread. Any other opinions?

...People watch other tv show than Steven Universe or Regular Show? Huh. I wouldn't have guessed :p (I watch neither)
At the same time, the reason you end up seeing a lot of that stuff is because it airs weekly for most of the year or comes in big chunks because that's how it gets scheduled. And other big shows (like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead) have their own threads for discussing them so they don't show up here ether.

Sure, sure. It's not a great critique from my side. The amount of posts on new stuff like Forever or such are fairly limited. I was just agreeing that, perhaps, we ought to have a separate thread for the "main" comics, as some other posts can get lost. I'm fairly sure lots of people don't read this thread anymore because of its focus.

I started the "new anime/what anime are you watching?" thread to separate anime from this thread way back in the day. Back then there didnt seem to be as much talk about american cartoons but we can mos def make it the animation thread.

I think a couple of the shows would benefit from their own spoiler threads. After all the Steven Universe discussion often looks like this:

This is sort of an issue with ongoing shows, especially ones that have long myth arcs like Steven Universe. I can personally attest that the Walking Dead thread looks like that for at least 24 hours after it airs for the exact same reason. I bet we'd have seen the same thing if the forum had been around during the days of X-Files.

I think it's even more of an issue now because of binge watching. It's easier to avoid the thread until it's safe to catch up on the discussion.

And streaming/on-the-go shit has made it so no one is on the same viewership schedule. It used to be that you had to watch it when it aired, get lucky and catch a rerun IF they did another showing during the week, or find someone who taped it. Now anyone can watch any show, at any time, anywhere.

Just finished a rewatch of Boy Meets World. A great sitcom, ages well and the finale brought tears to my eyes.

Seen any of Girl Meets World as well? I'm curious how it holds up watched back to back with Boy meets World :)
Girl Meets World is perfectly fine. The core group of kids are their own distinct people (even if Riley and Maya are clearly inspired by Corey and Shawn, and Farkle is Minkus's kid, they feel different enough) and the adults get some resolution/development as well... especially Harley Keiner, oddly enough. It feels a little held back compared to the utter insanity that was the original show, but I've watched everything so far and can't say I don't like it. It's sort of Boy Meets World if Corey's parents were a little more fun and a little more on the ball.

I have, I like it, but it's a pretty different show. It feels like it's a little rambling at times, not as straightforward in the lessons as Boy. They also do a good job having the two kids be the daughters of Cory and Topanga, you feel that their experiences in Boy shaped the way they've grown up and are now raising their children. It's kind of neat, and the kind of thing you can really only get in a 15 year later spinoff.

So, True Detective's second season is really boring, right? I'm not alone in thinking this? Damn. Let's have four leads who all have monotone conversations with side characters who we don't know enough about to give a fuck. They're no more interesting when they're all together, mind you.

I haven't seen episode 4 yet, but I've been intrigued by the 3 I saw. Though, really fucking mad at something in episode 2 and then revealed in 3 that anyone who has seen it will understand what I'm talking about.

What the show lacks, however, is that awesome chemistry between Harrelson and McConaughey. Half of the best scenes in the first episodes were just them driving around Louisiana shootin' the shit.

The thing is, Rust and Marty were compelling characters who were both screwed up individuals, in different ways. They were interesting outside the context of the case, and watching their lives change as time went on was just as intriguing as the central plot. And yeah, the chemistry between McConaughey and Harrelson made that work. The cast of season 2 doesn't have it.

You can only push, SEE THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLEX.

No they are all ass holes.

Jesus, what was the body count in that gunfight?

Rachel McAdams's character was the least terrible for a while.

My wife and I are taking advantage of the free month of HBO Now to watch all of Game of Thrones. I'm now torn between whether this or Penny Dreadful is the more "have to lock the doors before we start it" show.

So, I'm gonna chuck this here, the Emmy nominations were announced and it's another It's Always Sunnyless year for some reason and it's mostly completely predictable except for the fact that Emilia Clarke is up for best actress in a drama for some unknown reason and this fucking oddity:

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Andre Braugher for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (2013)
Ty Burrell for "Modern Family" (2009)
Adam Driver for "Girls" (2012)
Tony Hale for "Veep" (2012)
Tituss Burgess for "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" (2015)
Keegan-Michael Key for "Key and Peele" (2012) <-- The show is fucking called KEY and Peele, how is he a supporting actor? Also, the show itself, is nominated in Variety Series and not in Comedy Series, which is even weirder.

I'd say Tatiana Maslany's nomination was a big, pleasant surprise. That girl deserves all the awards. (I wonder if she can be nomination for Best Actress AND Best Supporting Actress.)
