So I'm off to be best man in a wedding in Taiwan and taking a trip to China the entire month of May.

Now I don't usually like taking pictures



But instead of polluting the new picture thread for the next 4 weeks, come here if you want to see weird Asian stuff and certain special guest stars

Both bottles of rum made it. Also I think I might use Jun's laptop to upload next time. Think tappatalk resizes the pictures.

That's the Mississippi River, a few miles north of Vickburg, Mississippi, the kinda really small town in the photo to the left of the big bend is Transylvania, Louisiana.

It can do that. That particular bend has a few memories for me, and just always thought it was funny that there is a Transylvania, Louisiana.

I feel like I have about a hundred pictures to post but I haven't had a free hour in about a week and a half. once I take a trip down south I might have some free time. Also I've had 6 bottles of baijiu in 2 days. I think I started to develop a resistance.

If you come upon an area with a whole lot of hot springs with bamboo poles sticking out of them, don't fall in the water.



In fact, maybe just avoid the area altogether.

Yay, I got a free hour, so here's a few shots from yesterday @ the Lijiang river (where it literally rained the entire day, into my face, on a boat, with no cover, and I scrambled to keep my camera dry). Also a few shows from the "Impressions" show, which was quite good, and this morning's Chinese noodle breakfast.

Well, I was finally going to get to the Taiwan pictures and other Yangshuo pictures, but Jun wanted me to root through the Longji rice terrace pictures first. Gonna spit this into two posts because of lots of pictures and reasons and things. These pictures should include the day / early morning of the longji area + the long hair village

Your pictures are amazing! I would love to visit there. I wouldn't even know where to start taking pictures if I was there.

Now that I have another rare, free moment, I wanted to post some of the pics from the very first leg in the trip--Taiwan + the Wedding. This has pics from the bride's home + surrounding area (Technically Taipei, but far enough out to feel like somewhere else), one of the night markets @bhamv3 suggested (Tonghua, I believe), as well a some pics from an area a bit farther out called Jiufen.

All of these were taken on my LG V10 phone. Its not too bad for a phone, but its not quite my DSLR + 17-55 Canon EF-S lens that I used for the Longji terraces.

Oh man - the food. I am drooling.

Your pictures of the pastoral side of China are fascinating... a lens to a bygone era. It's enough to make a man want to read up on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

There are always people complaining that the food in Chinese restaurants here in Germany is not authentic, but looking at the pictures of the buffet I don't see any differences from the all you can eat buffet I can have at a local restaurant.

Anyway, great pictures, many thanks for sharing them with us.

Here's a video of the short ride I took to get the rice:



And I took a hyperlapse video of the train trip from shanghai to Wuxi. About 30 minutes compressed to 2 minutes. The train generally moves at 300 kph.




That'll do it for now. I'll upload some other stuff later.
