I tried it once. Sat in a queue for 15 minutes, got to play for 30 seconds, then TF2 locked hard on me. Razzafraggin rackin frackin

I've played about an hour or two when it first came out, finished a game on the training server and one on a mann up server. In both, engineers were pivotal with heavies coming in a close second. I played as an engineer the first game and by the 3rd round or so my turret was nigh unstoppable, save for sentry busters but those can be over come by moving your stuff once they get close and start their pre-explosion animation.

Second game I was a pyro and spent much of the time spy checking for the engineers.

It is fun but can become very tedious when playing with randoms. More often than not I'd have people jump into a game for a few attempts at a wave, fail and then back out and unfortunately you really need all the help you can get towards the later rounds so even attempting them without a full team of 6 was futile. I didn't have my mic set up during these games but if I continue to play I'd say it's almost a necessity, not so much during set up but definitely while the waves are coming at you.

I assume you must play on official servers?

Looks like we need to organize this a bit more... Get a few people..... And invad a server to minimize randoms.

Beard.... Ash.... The hell, can't name tag on an iPad....

You can start up a match in a lobby, ala left 4 dead, with friends and then go from there. To get a guaranteed cosmetic drop, exclusive to mann v. machine mode, after completing a full game you need to have a mann up ticket to get on a mann up server, which are $.99 each. Those are, I believe, the games played on official valve servers. The training mode servers can be any but while you won't get the cosmetic items, normal weapons still drop. Also, don't know if this is true or not, but the game I played on the mann up server was significantly harder than the training server, and in the mann up game we were much more coordinated and still struggled through it.

Meant to mention this in my last post but the new canteans are a god send late game, specifically the insta-upgrade one that the engineer can get.

Haven't used the horrible matchmaker at all. Just go to the server list and look for a MVM map that has only a few people in it, join, play, and have fun. I like the mode and can't wait until the mapping community starts to put out some custom MVM maps. It's a good alternative to tradition play.

Yeah, you really need to use the server thing. It just takes WAY too long to find a server without it and sitting in Que is BORING.

Some things I've noticed...

1.) Engineers are the most important members of the team. Their sentry will mow down entire waves by itself and having a teleporter is a must. Just make sure you bring your Wrangler for when the tanks show up.

2.) Heavy is the next important guy. Natasha is actually useful in this mode because you actually have time for the slow to kick in.

3.) Medics aren't quite as vital as before because Ubers aren't as useful. However, a Kritz can do some monstrous damage, especially with the Uber Charge upgrades.

4.) Snipers aren't really that useful except as anti-sniping guys, though Jarate is VERY helpful at times. The Huntsman is probably a better main choice over all.

5.) Pyros are great. Bring your backburner or phlog. Backburner crits are damn powerful and the heal/crit from the Phlog is amazing.

6.) Demos don't seem that useful. You only get one good explosion unless you pack your Scottish Resistance (which actually sees some use in this). Definitely bring your Loch-n-Load. Half-Zatoichi is probably the best melee choice.

7.) Soldiers are good, as always. I'd probably say bring your Blackbox, Original, or Cowmangler. Your going to want a flag, conch, or Bison for your secondary.

Haven't tried Scout or Spy, but I could see the Ambassador doing some nice damage in this mode.

For the most part, the bugs have been worked out of the matchmaking service, though there are still some burps from time to time.

Still, I tried to play those first days and it was a mess.

I haven't had to wait longer than 5 minutes to get in a game though, since they added that little patch a few days ago.

It's quite fun, though if someone leaves your game early, it's tough to have someone join up late, as they're a round or two behind on upgrades.

Played some this morning. It was fun.

Having a good team is important. The first game had 3 engineers... the second only had 2 but I could do my medic fun stuff.

I know it's early (plus i'm fucked with the the whole jetlag thing) .. how's a game in the afternoon sound?

Message me on Steam to tell me you're available and I'll get a team to play together this afternoon.

I would like to but I will be doing last minute repairs on my dirt bike in preparation for my first off road outing in years. CAN NOT WAIT!

Got the wife her own dirt bike now too... going to be a blast.

Seriously though, if I can get my stuff done tonight I will try to come online tomorrow evening.

CALLEJA!

Also, could someone invite me to the steam group for Halforums?

I believe my steam name is Creepshow. That or Darsiek. You'll be able to tell it's me because I have the same avatar on Steam.
