The secret that could ruin your life

No, I don't want you to share yours, and I'm certainly not going to share mine. This is just me linking to an article about a reddit thread. Prepare to have your faith in humanity shaken.

Also, cum box.

The secret that could ruin your life if it ever came out.

Gonna drag this my way briefly with a quote from there:

The worst part is that everyone thinks I’m this happy-go-lucky guy who’s just a loner, when I’m actually really depressed and terrified as fuck to open up to anyone, but you guys are just random jackoffs on the internet so it doesn’t count/matter.
See, I am a happy-go-lucky loner, and people always nagged me endlessly about depression and thinking I was gonna go apeshit on the school or hurt myself or something like that. People like this are ruining it for the rest of us who enjoy being away from people!

WELP!

I'm uh.... I think I'm done. I think I need to cancel my internet. This isn't what I signed up for.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

By the way, did you know that pretty much the entire town of Missoula, Montana (population ~68,000) is under federal investigation for the 80 rapes that happened there in the last 3 years?

People are dark, awful, messed up creatures hiding behind a thin mask of normalcy, more often than not.

#6

Hylian

Hylian

Oh I know people are messed up and I hold \ little hope for society as it stands now (I still hold hope for the future if society can make the necessary changes ) but I still highly doubt the validity of most of those stories. I am not saying all of them are fake but I would hazard a guess that the majority of them are either fake or at least exaggerated.

#7

ElJuski

ElJuski

I call bullshit on most of this.

I also do an epic eyeroll when people say that society "has no hope". Society has tons of hope. There are terrible people out there, and people think of terrible things all the time, but seriously? Most of society is fine. Maybe they can do a little more to think of their less successful peers, but...

We wouldn't have anything to hope for if not for the terrible people.

I find it interesting that this is what you choose to focus on from that article. The second to last paragraph was this:

I guess it’s also worth pointing out that people shared links and phone numbers for suicide hotlines throughout the thread. One of the top-voted comments was a list of support hotlines. It’s good to know that a popular reaction among anonymous readers wasn’t to antagonize or poke fun, but to offer help.
So in a thread ripe for anonymous internet dickery, many people posted helpful links and supportive comments. I don't know if it was a majority or not, but clearly many people aren't the deranged wretches you wish them to be.

Semi related:

If you actually did kill a man in Reno, just to watch him die, you could tell fucking everyone. Especially if it's in threads like that one.

Some of them reek of bullshit. Some of them... yeah... this is what Frankie and I hear, guys.

I will say this: for those folks who are incredulous as to why a rape victim thinks she might not be believed... I've done the preliminary report on about a dozen rape cases... only one has been substantiated. The rest were either "I cheated and now have to fess up," or "My parents just found out I'm having sex," or things of that nature.

The ones crying wolf make it terrible for the legitimate victims.

Also makes it pretty bad for the people falsely accused, I'd imagine... :(

If there were a positive way to say I dislike what you're saying because it's too fucking true in button form, I would.

Yeah, there are so many who use it as "pull lever for instant sympathy" that the legits get lost amongst the fakers. Even the most sympathetic public servant is going to get jaded after the hundredth poseur.

The worst time was when I found out that one friend had been telling people she was raped by another friend. We found out that she had been cheating on her boyfriend with that friend for months and was found out and had claimed rape. It was all nonsense. She basically ruined his friendship with a lot of people because she didn't want to face the consequences for their actions.

I'm pretty sure I posted about that here while it was happening and before I learned the truth.

#24

Officer_Charon

Officer_Charon

Yeah, I remember that slice of the rant thread...

The bottom line is that it's far too easy for adults to avoid acting like adults. Accepting the consequences for your actions is the very definition of being a grown-up.

SeraRelm

Unfortunately there are a lot of crutches out there more than willing to help stunt that development. I don't do violence but I'd be seriously tempted to slap a bitch if she lied about that around me.

I didn't say everybody, I said more than not. I know there are really good, honest, kind people out there in the world, I've met some of them. But for every upright citizen there's a guy who is hiding something unspeakable. And maybe even some of the do-gooders do good to assuage their tortured guilt. And some just have a stinky old box full of dried semen hidden in a closet.

No one mentioned the pedophiles either. I'm hoping it's because none of us can *looks around for Icarus* "relate" to either of those.

Or maybe incest and pedophilia have become such common sins that we don't find them noteworthy any more.

Which is an interesting commentary on the state of society, I guess.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one.

Reading a bit into the thread in question, a few of the things they mentioned were understandable and/or excusable, much was douchebaggery to varying degrees, and some were just plain sick and disgusting. But I found little in there that was really all that surprising, even if true.

*sighs* That guy who let his abusive father have a heart attack....

My husband was SHOCKED to hear that I sympathize with him.

I'm still shocked that I feel so strongly.

I wonder how many of these confessions are the way people wanted events to unfold. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if heart attack guy called 911, but really wanted to watch the old man die.
