Actually that was my first thought too.
The second was: Samurai Dalek.

Ok, Hollywood, you fucked up the first Wolverine movie. This is the type of movie that can be dark like Batman, please make it so.

Also, FUCK YES SILVER SAMURAI.

I'm cautiously optomistic. I loved the Japan saga with Wolverine. One of the few times I actually really liked the character.

Sweet! I hope Samurai gets into another fight with the cast from Saturday Night Live!

As long as there's a scene that I remember vividly (but can't find online) where Wolverine is lying in a bed bandaged up, smoking a cigar with smoke coming out of the bandages he's wrapped up with.

I know that happened in a comic that took place in Japan.

That was the first one, fourth one was just Fast and Furious.

Perhaps they are going from titles like Hulk to The Incredible Hulk.

Yeah, but this isn't Street Fighter: The Movie. This is Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game

Even if this movie is bad, I hope they AT LEAST don't make Silver Samurai and Makino married like in Wolverine and the X-men. That....that was never not gross for me.

"Sequel" is a strong word. There's not going to be any story connection to the previous film(s, supposedly it will stand entirely on its own), the writers are different, and so is the director. Its more like Jackman and Shuler Donner are calling a mulligan on the previous movie.

I too am cautiously optimistic. One half of the writing team is responsible for such films as The Usual Suspects, X-Men, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The other half wrote Constantine, Live Free or Die Hard, Race To Witch Mountain, Unstoppable, and Total Recall (2012). Mixed bag there. The director has made such films as Cop Land, Walk The Line, 3:10 to Yuma, and Girl, Interrupted. Oh, he also did Knight & Day (which was actually pretty fun) and Kate & Leopold (THERE'S A GREAT BLINKING TIME PARADOX IN THE ENDING THAT DOESN'T NEED TO EXIST! WHY?!). So the conclusion is...I have no idea, the combined experience runs a gamut of quality and crap.

I guess the only thing to do now is to place our bets! I bet good cos they screwed the pooch with X-men origins Wolverine and they won't want to mess up again!

Technically anything, but the tachyon energy his mutant power generates is usually put into swords which allow him to cut through anything except adamantium.

What if he channels his energy into adamantium? Would that make it like, double adamantium?

So...he can't channel his mutant energy into adamantium?
I'm going full nerd here: Since his charged up sword can cut through almost everything but adamantium, and adamantium can cut through almost anything save for (depending on the writer) other adamantium, then in theory Silver Samurai would be unstoppable with an adamtium blade. This assumes that the relative cutting power of whatever he's charging matters - if he could cut through steel with a charged up cardboard tube, then the adamantium wouldn't make a difference. The thing about adamantium is that it is, again depending on the writer, somewhat harder to come by. Unless Weapon X or Lord Dark Wind implant in your body (or you steal it from SHIELD), you're probably not going to get your hands on some. Which means that, while Silver Samurai's cutting power has a limit, its not something worth worrying about on a day to day basis.

Thoughts on the trailer:

1. It looks awesome and I want to watch it.
2. Seeing a bearded Hugh Jackman made me think he's going to break out in song about his guilt over stealing the bishop's silver.
3. I thought Shingen was being played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa at first. Voice seems similar.
And
4. Removal of mutant healing factor is a good idea from a storytelling perspective, though I highly doubt they'll make that a permanent change. Chances are he'll regain his healing factor in time for the climactic battle.
