There's many versions of the game, so we're both right really. If you played it on your phone, it's Plague. I played it on my computer (at work mostly..) at crazymonkeygames.com and it's called Pandemic. Or Pandemic II, which I preferred.

Pandemic is now available for iOS devices (or, at least, on the iPad) and so is Plague Inc.
Fun games, but they take a long time to play. I'd prefer to infect the world in around 5-10 minutes, rather than spend 30+ minutes.
So, how many games did you have to play to understand the game mechanics? I've only played maybe 2-3 full games on either of these setups, including online when everyone here got into it a few years ago.
The only thing I don't like about the iOS app is the fact that to really do well you have to pay extra for in-app upgrades. I will never - EVER - buy anything in-app.

Hm. Probably 4 or 5 plays to become comfortable, but it was a few weeks of long bus rides before I mastered Brutal. For a while I thought Brutal with nanobots might be unbeatable. I still struggle with that one. Also, I paid the 99 cents for the app, so I have the fast-forward feature, which makes the game run at 2x speed or so.

Unless you mean paying for the game itself, I don't think this is the case. Though maybe it's different on iPhone? I have the android version and I paid for the game, but only 99 cents. The upgrades are all unlockable, although you can buy them if you don't want to play to earn them.

Indeed. I haven't had to pay for any of the DNA segments and I have all but 4 of them, and only don't have those 4 because they're for the "new" zombie plague type and I've only beaten that one on Brutal once so far.

Yeah, now that I'm playing it you can unlock them or pay to get them early. Still ain't buying them. *grump*

Only once have I made an in-app purchase, and it did NOT go well. I tried to unlock the field of dreams in bad piggies. Got charged, but wouldn't unlock. They refunded me and told me to try again. Same thing happened. Got another refund and gave up.
But bad piggies continued to push "purchase refunded" notifications for over a week a few times a day.
Hell yes. It's literally the best digital pinball game series that I've ever played on any platform. They have versions on Xbox and PS3, but the format of the iOS is best.

Well, I know which iOS game I'll be buying tonight. Thanks, Bowielee!
