Thread Prefixes

#1

Dave

Dave

Now that we have Thread Prefixes, I would like to add a few that we can use as they are very, very handy.

But what ones should we add?

Here's the format I want for suggestions:

  • Title - Board the prefix should go to
  • Bug - Board Requests and Bug Reports
  • Question - Any board
I can add as many or as few as I want.

For Sportstalk - one for MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL would be a good start. Maybe add CFB or NCAAF for college football. NCAAB or CBB for college hoops.

Webcomic - Media Madness

comics, tv, movies, books - Media Madness
PC (Master Race), XBox, PS3, Wii, Consoles, Handhelds - Gaming

THAT KIND OF SHIT!

General --> Food

I'd like to see a prefix for forum thread games or GTKY threads. I can't think of a good prefix for them though. "Thread game" is descriptive, but I don't like it.

All of these have been added. Thread Game is also there now.

We need a Brazelton prefix for all the threads we post about celeb deaths.

._.

Did you honestly put in a prefix just for fig?

I did. His threads bring in more new users and lurkers than any other 5 users combined. Pez brings in more traffic without trying than I do when I'm actively tring to market the site.

In that case, wouldn't it make more sense to have it be by topic, since the new users and lurkers aren't showing up for Fig but for the topics themselves? If they're here for cosplay, then it would make more sense to have a tag just for cosplay, since that's clearly what they want.

Also, Games on Sale probably should just be stickied.

Hmmm. Makes sense. I was trying to show the guy some love since he won't take a sub of his own. And I like your idea of the sticky.

If Fig was selling his personality, a tag for him would make more sense. Since he makes content aggregators, sorting by the content itself is most helpful, you know?

I would also like to add Fantasy for Sportstalk.

How about an Art/Music/Writing tag?

Already there.

Gaming forum could also probably have something to denote D&D games, like either a straight "D&D" tag, or a "Pen & Paper" generic for all from the genre.

#18

Cool, but shouldn't music be in General and Media Madness as well? I'd also think Art would be a better tag than Drawing (e.g. Krisken and wife's pottery and whatnot)

Just Pen and Paper. What if I suddenly need to talk to NR about Changeling?

I probably should let you start a cosplay sub-forum, shouldn't I? Sorry, I've just been too busy taking care of my health to feel like I've thought about all the angles beforehand. Maybe just take the plunge and let things work themselves out afterwards.

The Brazelton prefix is the best prefix.

Good News, Everyone! - General

Okay, that is a bit long, but maybe we need an Announcement tag of some kind.

Okay, I have a lot of tweaking to do. I'll work on that today if my work doesn't get too much.

Also, is it possible to make the tags in brackets? The first time I was completely confused by some of the tags, because as it turned out the thread was not called ''Informational User Group Changes'', but ''informational'' was the tag.

#26

Dave

Dave

I suppose I could do that. But they are in cute little button form right now!

#27

Are they? I just saw them in the same font as the text, no real button graphic or anything - maybe it was my browser?

I like the buttons. Some of the colors need to be tweaked, MLB is puke brown for example, but I like that they pop out in thread lists and my alert drop down.

I will also suggest testing it out with a dark theme as some options are somewhat nasty to look at, for example.... (PC GAME) is almost white on white and hard to read.

In terms of game prefixes, no need to be overly complicated. I do think PC Game is kind of useless and I’d rather you just use "Gaming". PC Gaming or Console Gaming was never really needed to be defined and will only serve to separate the community which I believe we should avoid. We could also use other prefixes such as "D&D", "Game News" or “Gaming News”. I think 3 options is a good number of prefixes.

I thought about things like Art but felt it was too general. I can add Crafting to the list and that would encompass Krisken and his wife.

Oh, and Music is now in General also.

#33

Jay

Jay

Far too many options now. Seriously, 3 is more than enough. Who the heck will use "Playstation" or "Handheld" beyond the 1-2 applicable instances in a year? Just use Game News.

Not liking this gimmick at all.
Added at: 10:34
I'd also put General before Gaming since General is far more important.

Just a thought, but is there a need for each tag to have a different color? I understand it makes for a quick way to differentiate topics, but unless you memorize the colors, you'd need to read the tag anyway. It works welll if you browse by subforum, but the multitude of colors makes browsing "What's New" very cluttered looking. What would you think of tying color tags to subforums? Or at least, tying color ranges to subforums?

Also, I think a Politics tag would be good.

This is a good suggestion.

Let gaming be blue and remove all the needless prefixes for gaming. :)

I think that's a pretty decent idea.

Game section prefixes seem broken.

Also, there are far too many options. :)
