Oh, Australia! What have you become?

The story:

Guy gets busted downloading child porn - including "filming images of child pornography on his computer" which sounds to me like he was making it.

His wife says, "Fuck off!" and leaves him as any smart woman would. The guy sues for partial custody AND GETS IT! As long as he installs locks on their doors for when they are asleep at night. The judge thought they needed protection. That's smart. how's about KEEPING THEM AWAY FROM HIM!!

Before any of you say, "Well, it doesn't mean he'd do anything to his own kids." just note the last two paragraphs:

The Family Court found the father had invited one of the girls into his bed, and had \"demonstrated affection toward her in a way that was, in all the circumstances, inappropriate for a child of that age\".


The eldest girl told counselors she \"did not want to spend time alone with her father\".

The girls are 10 & 8. The judge says that this remains in effect until the YOUNGEST turns 14.

The mom is fighting this with everything in her power and this dumbass judge pulls this? This is the only time I will ever condone this, but she needs to grab these girls and take them as far away as possible. Apparently doing things through the Australian legal system is doing her no good at all.

We need to centralize all the Australia shit in a single thread, or it'll overrun the forum.

Why would any judge would let the parent who HAS A RECORD with his own kids to have the kids? Even the kid told the counselors that she doesn't want to spend alone time with her father. that is mess up.

I think that goes for any country. We have our share of idiots in the US, too.

He probably employed the Chewbacca defense. That did not. Make. Any. Sense.

But how can this happen?! Banning the video games was supposed to prevent just this sort of thing from happening!!

So one significant thing is a requirement for another adult to be present at the Father's place from evening to morning if the girls are staying overnight.

The one significant thing is dwarfed by the fact that another adult is not required to be present, in line of sight at all times. Or by the fact this man is allowed within a mile of any children at all, his own or otherwise.

Any adult? I mean, I'm sure the guy knows some people, but can they be trusted to do the right thing? I wouldn't even want to let my kids go there if there was a squad of navy seals outside the bedroom door. Who would force kids to spend the night with someone who enjoys and is convicted of child porn? The whole thing baffles me.

Seriously, any way you slice it this judge made a horrible decision that will most likely end up in 3 lives ruined (mother and 2 kids).

It kinda baffles me, too.

It's also kinda any adult. The mother's supposed to know the adult's name, and have met them, or something. The court order explains it, but I don't feel like re-reading it.
