Tory, Grant and Kari are no longer Mythbusters

I can't say I've watched much Mythbusters in the last few years, but it still seems like the end of an Era.

.@KariByron, @grantimahara & @ToryBelleci, it's been a pleasure to not only work with you but call you our friends. pic.twitter.com/zeskb0OWtA

It's been an amazing ride for 10 years! We couldn't have done it without you guys. You're the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you

After a decade of the Mythbusters, we are no longer with the show. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us.

Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way. Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!

In related news, nerd palms are finally getting a cease fire during the Mythbusters time slot.

Honestly I didn't even know they were still making new episodes.

I found out about that probably an hour and a half after the episode would've aired.
Now I gotta track it down elsewhere.

I guess after 10 years you can't call them interns any longer.

Getting their own show(s)? Or something else entirely? I wonder.

I liked Grant, but I didn't care for the other two. So, I am not broken hearted. Then again, I haven't watched an episode in 4 or 5 yrs.

Grant isn't exactly in need of work ether. Not only is he an icon in the Geek community, his professional work is also top tier and he can basically pick and choose his projects now. Kari is in a similar boat, though her stuff is usually more behind the scenes. Tori's probably kind of fucked though.

Tory is a skilled metalworker and model builder, so I assume he will be able to find a job of some kind.
I wonder if this whole thing didn't stem from that cannon incident a while back, and that getting rid of "the junior team" might've been part of some sort of handed-down decision (since I think they were the team operating the cannon at the time of the incident).

No, the cannon stuff was all on the Jaime and Adam. Also, that was YEARS ago.

I think the real issue is they are running out of things they can do on their budget and they can't afford to have two teams doing stuff.

I'd really like to find the reason that they are shooting themselves in the foot. In reality the "kids" were more entertaining than the main cast.
Is it a budget reason? Or should the whole thing be scrapped? Because I forget that it is still on now. How many times can they retread Hollywood Physics?

One of the issues with the show right now is that they don't do big advertising for it anymore. They keep moving the time slot and don't let people know when new stuff is on, so no one watches it.

There's another series of gifs I saw in an album on Imgur a couple months ago that I wish I could find to post again, I remember it being hilarious, but other than that all I can remember is it involves "Grant loses his shit" and that's not a very helpful search term.

The switch to digital is also hurting many of the non-premium networks. When the cable companies switched off analog, quite a few people just stopped watching TV entirely.

Discovery Channel doesn't get it, and if they don't adapt soon, the secondary staff of their money making shows won't be all they will have to cut.
Not only do they not get it, they lost it. They went even further into the A&E model of reality shows and decided to make fake ones like Amish Mafia and Moonshiners. Mythbusters is their last remaining link to any credibility they might have had.

So, they are Firefly'ing it?

Except Mythbusters kind of MADE the network and kept it going back when all they had was like 12 hours of documentaries a day and was consistently it's best rated show when they supported it. It's STILL their most important show from a marketing standpoint, as it's the only one that resonates with with both kids and adults in a way that is easy and appropriate to market. NO ONE complains about the Mythbusters doing show tours or conventions because the focus is always on the science.

But now they have like 3-4 reality TV hits that cost nothing to make so it's hard to justify the big budget. It's also the odd duck now, as Discovery doesn't do educational or documentary shows anymore.

Yeah I really think they need to re-brand like TLC, because the only thing you Discover is how shitty their lineup of shows is.

And how their obviously, bafflingly fake monster specials keep fooling morons. You know, it'd be nice if Shark Week actually covered some important things - like the rate at which sharks are being harvested to extinction, the vital role in ecology they play, the variety of technological advances that have been yielded by studying sharks. Instead of making knock-offs of Jaws with terrible CGI suggesting that there are still surviving Megaladons, which, no, there seriously aren't.
