That is pretty cool. So basically you can get the phone without any contract (pay full price for it) but you can use it with any carrier with GSM (no verizon)

T-Mobile uses GSM too.

And as far as I know, you've always been able to buy an iphone outright without a contract. They've just taken the extra step of unlocking that would have taken about 5 minutes on google.

About time. Apple said these were coming in November, still waiting for them to hit the shelves. 'cuz if I get one, it'll have to be a factory unlocked one.

AT&T made an offer, but the deal hasn't closed yet (mostly due to FCC and Verizon/Sprint suing to stop it). AT&T is still pushing for it, though.
