V - the series

There may already be a thread, but how do you search for a letter?

Anyway, I'm watching the premier tonight, it seems interesting, especially as I enjoyed the first miniseries. I assume this is a series, and not a miniseries.

I'm keen to see old characters (Inara from Firefly (the companion) and Juliet from lost) and how they make their parts interesting and fresh. I've been trying to avoid spoilers, but here's an article that gives a little tease:

Anyone else looking forward to this?

As much as the ads look good, this show is a MESS. The post-pilot scripts were terrible, production was halted to try and retool and fix the series, and it just looks like it's in trouble from everything I've heard.

Production on the upcoming series V has reportedly been temporarily halted.

The ABC reboot of the '80s miniseries has taken a two-week 'creative hiatus', The Wrap reports.

A Warner Bros spokesperson said the studio wants to \"take advantage of our November premiere to maximise creative opportunities and deliver the audience the best show possible\". However, the representative did not elaborate on why the break was ordered.

The move is not expected to delay the show's November 3 debut and an insider said that no staffing changes had been carried out on the remake.
I might watch the premiere, but I don't want to get too invested. Here's another link that has similar stuff: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=8310

I might watch it tonight. Never saw the original, so I'll be going in with a fresh look.

Well, the proof will be in the pudding. Good things can come out of terrible productions, but we'll see. I've had to drop all my other shows due to other things going on in life, so this will be a rare bit of entertainment for me, and I suspect that my usually low standards for entertainment will be even lower as a result.

I won't watch it because I'm fucking SICK AND TIRED of the fucking commercials! Give it a rest already!

I mean, if you liked Transformers 2, you'll like this, since it has moving pictures and people talking and sounds and stuff

Dude! I'm totally there!

Wait, you didn't mention explosions! Are there explosions? And badly written "awkward" college situations?

Don't forget intense camera angles and fast-paced camerawork!

I'll be watching this V remake with some interest. The entire production could've consisted of apathetic losers missing the deadline on everything because they were too busy watching Aqua Teen; if the final product ends up fine, then so what?

I watched the original when it aired, so there's a little nostalgia I'd rather not see scuffed up. I'll give the new one a chance, at least. I'm not expecting a BSG-level upgrade, but I'm just starved enough for sci-fi TV to keep watching if it stays at or above the "doesn't suck" level.

Just watched the original on Sci-Fi, and I was impressed by the special fx. They took the time to make the hovering ships fade into the haze and distance realistically in most shots (there were a few oddball pie-plate shots).

4 hours. That's all that's planned for at the moment, according to my newspaper's entertainment section.

The writer also guessed all 4 of those hours weren't even likely to make it to air, either

Did Joss Whedon do this one too???

I thought the pacing was a bit odd. I would have prefered a bit more suspense in the pilot. If they had made the pilot longer, so they had room for more plot twists, I think I would have liked it more.

I will see next episode too. If I remember.

It's like Law and Order meets aliens. The directing is lifted straight from L&O.

I liked it well enough. I'm afraid it's going to devolve into drama for drama's sake, though, which would be sad.

Honestly, at this point I don't really see how they're going to go forward from here.

The deck is *so* stacked in the aliens' favor, that the only way they could possibly fail would be through a series of absurd contrivances.

... yeah, that's pretty much how the original miniseries went too.

Yeah, that's kind of the whole point of the series. A ragtag group of freedom fighters is able to take down an overwhelmingly powerful enemy through the fighting human spirit.

How long until some pundit compares the aliens to the US, and the resistance fighters to the terrorists...?

I watched the pilot, and thought it was written very, very badly. Which is sad, I like a lot of the actors in it, but I couldn't even finish watching it, so terrible.

22 replies? 22 replies!?!

V was a crappy show the first time, and its pretty crappy this time around. And yet this gets 22 replies and I can't seem to find anyone here (or elsewhere) that is interested in The Prisoner, which may be the best television experience I have had since...I dunno, Deadwood season 1?

I don't get cable, but even if I did I don't have time to watch TV - I've had to drop all my usuals (Heroes, glee, dollhouse, etc).

But I have the original series on a hard drive here, and want to watch them.

I watched the first two eps on Hulu, frankly unless Anna starts working on the Bikini wearing cultures, I am not gonna hang out.

I saw the original series and I know, the circomstances are gonna be waaaaay contrived.

Then again any species expending the energy they have to come from one star to get to here, which frankly would be more energy than all of our civilizations have generated for each ship since the first fire was built, contrivances would be needed.

Water? Human Host Bodies? Human Chow™? Please, spare me. They could scoop more ice in a week in Saturn's rings with their gravitic control with no muss than they could hold on ship. Since it's been shown by the second epp they've been here for a good while, kidnap a few humans, and send in the clones! Heck if they started a off world breeding program, a ton of lonely nerds would sign up to volunteer.
"So your child has incurable cancer and you have working ovaries, join up with us never to return, and we'll cure her cancer, for evar. Evil, no we're not evil, we're alien." 11 months later Cancer momma gets dropped back on the earth, and Visitors hie outta here with a box full of pink puppies, never having learned such concepts as reading, writing or resistance.

Yes, it is contrived, but I still like it. I'm able to suspend my disbelief.

Even in the original, if they wanted food, Livestock is more plentiful than human beings are, so why not steal that, rather than harvest humans in an overly elaborate plot to take control of the earth? Why not? Because there's no story if they don't and they just plain aren't evil bastards :p

Opinions: everyone has one.

I enjoyed the original (Beastman vs. aliens, come on--it sells itself), and I'm enjoying this one.

I actually like it. I am not comparing it to the old V (which I did like) but I kinda try to figure out what is their angle on the movie. I think the story is moving forward pretty quick.

I put under spoiler just in case.
1. The V DID have advance landing party so that is major advantage
2. V have advance technology so pretty much a no match.
3. The humans DO have renegade V allies so...... some technology are available to humans
4. Humans are food for the V. They don't want to damage their food ;)

so........ we'll see how this pans out. It is only 2 episode (soon to be 3)

From that same era: I'll admit that seeing a flash of Grace Jones' crotch in Conan the Destroyer was almost enough to make me come out as gay, too ;)
