Well this is either gonna suck or rock, Fallen Earth

So I had an extra $50 to play with this week after bills. I'm gettin a little tired of WoW, the slow crawl to 80 is just nuts, I'm barely 63 and I don't want to shell out another $45 (after tax) to be able to get from 70 to 80.

I went looking for other games. Darkfall looks good, I've been keeping an eye on it, I'm waiting for a demo/trial first. Passing on Aion (everyone raves about the flying but hey, I could fly in Shadowbane too, with wings, and it came out 8 years ago). I was considering Mortal Online, very similar to Darkfall but its been getting some negative beta reviews. So it came down to Darkfall or Fallen Earth. Open PvP, or semi-Open PvP. One's crafting system is so-so, the other is insanely indepth with like 80-90% of the stuff in game being crafted. The idea of building vehicles, not gaining levels (skills level up), highly customizable characters, etc it reminded me of my glory days of Neocron 2 and UO (it's very similar to NC1/2 with its faction system, crafting system, etc)

So I took a risk, and ordered it via Steam. 5 gigs downloading as we speak, least I can get a headstart (launch is the 22nd).

Anyone interested in this game? If you were a Fallout 3 fan I think you'd really dig FE, the whole apocalyptic waste, drug user, make random shit out of trash kinda game, with FPS combat + a role playing system, looks good.

Yeah, I like the look of this but agree there is a potential for suckage. I'm pretty sure Mr. ZM will be getting it and if he does I'll mooch off his account to see for myself.

Played it in Beta. It's terrible... the economy is entirely player driven to the point that your going to have to make your own ammo if you want to actually hunt anything. This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't take 5-10 minutes for a single stack of the most basic ammo to finish. Worst of all, the components to make basic stuff are incredibly hard to find, often needing 2-3 disciplines to create them all.

In short... it's Star Wars Galaxies before CU, only your being charged by the shot. I can see why some people might be drawn to that, but it's too unfriendly for beginning players for me to be interested in it.

Well, the crafting is pretty damn indepth, the skill system is nice.

Graphically the game is a monster, my poor laptop can barely keep up (single digit frame rates in towns). If they add more graphical options it'll be pretty sweet. Might keep playing my free month but its fairly unplayable for me.
