[Music] What are you doing for Record Store Day?

Saturday is Record Store Day, which was created to celebrate the independent record store and the vinyl format. Each year there are a raft of new releases and reissues exclusively for those shops which have signed on to the RSD pledge. A list of this year's releases is on their site.

Not to crap on my own thread, but I'm not terribly excited about this year's list. Most of the acts I don't even recognize. I might be interested in a couple of the Sinatra Capitol reissues and Get Behind Me Satan, but what I'm really after is another Mystery Box from Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh. He puts around 100 or so records, mostly from the dollar bins, into a sealed box. You get the box for free, but you have to take the box he gives you. No peeking. Last year I got some (at least to me) gems like some Kath-era Chicago, some Bob Seger, and Graham Nash & David Crosby.

So, is anyone planning anything for Record Store Day? Does that list get your motor running? Are you ignoring the new releases and going for discounts on other stuff? Are you one of those who is disgusted by what some say RSD has become? Or is the vinyl record a long past or non-existent memory?

I don't think there's a record store within 100 miles of me. And if there was, I would still continue to ignore it and just download my music like a normal person.

I haven't owned a single hard copy of any music from the very moment I started using mp3s.

I order physical CDs off of the internet. The record music retail industry is going out of business and fast.

Same thing I do on St. Paddy's Day and Cinco de Mayo. Watch cartoons, have some popcorn, and go to bed early.

I love the sound of vinyl and wish it were still the standard, but it's certainly not portable. Alas, I neither have a turntable nor will I be around. I have a gig halfway across the state.

No record store here. No turntable either.

I have a standard turntable/tuner combo, but it's something I keep saying I'm going to replace with something better (vibration isolated, more precise speed control, etc) so I can transfer all my vinyl to computer. Not this year, though.

I am going to remember what it was like to have record stores.

All we have left are HMVs and they're just monolithic pop culture junk dealers now more than a music store.

I'm currently near a Fry's, but it's not something I want to invest a lot of time into at the moment.

Not to mention the mono Love s/t for $20 I passed up due to lack of funds. The Mystery Box wasn't as treasure filled as last year. Guess Iggy and Frank took all the record karma.

Ha... what did I do for Record Store Day? I spent all day trying to find a fucking copy of the White Stripes: Get Behind Me Satan for a friend and all the places I called had already sold them out. Apparently the hipsters came early, snatched them up, and are now selling them on eBay for 100 bucks.
