Yaaaaaaaay!

Faline is all up on the new Tori Amos album, so I'm hearing that a lot. Got some good stuff. My favorite right now is "That Guy" for its drag-you-in quality.

Don Quixote by Gordon Lightfoot

Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman, wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be?
He is wild but he is mellow, he is strong but he is weak
He is cruel but he is gentle, he is wise but he is meek

Reaching for his saddlebag, he takes a battered book into his hand
Standing like a prophet bold, he shouts across the ocean to the shore
'Til he can shout no more

I have come o'er moor and mountain, like the hawk upon the wing
I was once a shining knight, who was the guardian of a king
I have searched the whole world over, looking for a place to sleep
I have seen the strong survive and I have seen the lean grown weak

See the children of the earth, who wake to find the table bare
See the gentry in the country, riding off to take the air

Reaching for his saddlebag, he takes a rusty sword into his hand
Then striking up a knightly pose, he shouts across the ocean to the shore
'Til he can shout no more

See the jailor with his key, who locks away all trace of sin
See the judge upon the bench, who tries the case as best he can
See the wise and wicked ones, who feed upon life's sacred fire
See the soldier with his gun, who must be dead to be admired

See the man who tips the needle, see the man who buys and sells
See the man who puts the collar, on the ones who dare not tell
See the drunkard in the tavern, stemming gold to make ends meet
See the youth in ghetto black, condemned to life upon the street

Reaching for his saddlebag, he takes a tarnished cross into his hand
Then standing like a preacher now, he shouts across the ocean to the shore
Then in a blaze of tangled hooves, he gallops off across the dusty plain
In vain to search again, where no one will hear

Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman, wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be?
He is wild but he is mellow, he is strong but he is weak
He is cruel but he is gentle, he is wise but he is meek

Almost makes me wish I was back in my pseudo stoner days. This would definitely be good shit to mellow to.

It's easier not to be wise
And measure these things by your brain
I sank into Eden with you
Alone in the church by and by

I'll read to you here, save your eyes
You'll need them, your boat is at sea
Your anchor is up, you've been swept away
And the greatest of teachers won't hesitate
To leave you there, by yourself, chained to fate

I alone love you; I alone tempt you; I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this!
I alone love you; I alone tempt you; I alone love you

It's easier not to be great
And measure these things by your eyes
We long to be here by his resolve
Alone in the church by and by
To cradle the baby in space
and leave you there by yourself chained to fate

I alone love you; I alone tempt you; I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this!
I alone love you; I alone tempt you; I alone love you

Oh, now, we took it back too far
Only love can save us now
All these riddles that you burn
All come runnin' back to you
All these rhythms that you hide
Only love can save us now
All these riddles that you burn yeah, yeah, yeah

I alone love you; I alone tempt you; I alone love you
Fear is not the end of this!

Got listening to this band by way of hunting up new electronica artists to listen to. They're kind of like a less eclectic Daft Punk. From there I found a rad-ass remix they did of an MGMT song, and now I'm listening to them obsessively, too.

Yeah, I didn't mention Real McKenzies OR Dropkick Murphys cause the Real McKenzies (Canadian, BTW) are a purely Scottish punk sound, and the Dropkick Murphys are a non celtic specific group, taking influences and songs from both Irish and Scottish origins (Although they do lean more towards the Irish side of things).

But both are great to listen to.

So's Flatfoot 56, another Scottish punk band (actually a Christian Scottish Punk Band), who I had a the pleasure of seeing live in February.

I'm including the lyrics with this one because it is just so damn sad and beautiful

I was sipping on a Whiskey when I got the call
Yeah my friend Lex was lying in the hospital
She'd been pretty sick for about half a year
But it seems liked this time the end was drawing near

So dropped my plans and jumped the next London train
I found her laid up and in a lot of pain
Her eyes met mine and then I understood
That her weather forecast wasn't looking too good

So I sat and spun her stories for a little while
Tried to raise her mood and tried to raise a smile
But she silenced all my rambling with a shake of her head
Drew me close and listen this is what she said now

"You'll live to dance another day,
it's just now you'll have to dance,
for the two of us,
so stop looking so damn depressed and sing with all your heart that the Queen is dead"

Yeah she told me she was sick of all the hospital food
And of doctors, distant relatives, draining her blood
She said "I know I'm dying, but I'm not finished just yet,
I am dying for a drink and for a cigarette"

So we hatched a plan to book ourselves a cheap hotel
In the centre of the City and to raise some Hell
They waste to all the clubs and then when everyone else is long asleep
We know we're good and done

"You'll live to dance another day,
it's just now you'll have to dance,
for the two of us,
so stop looking so damn depressed and sing with all your heart that the Queen is dead"

And South London's not the same anymore
The Queen is dead, and the last of the great has finally gone to bed

Well I was working on some words when Sarah called me up
She said that Lex had gone asleep and wasn't waking up
And even though I knew that there was nothing to be done
I felt bad for not being there and now, well, she was gone

So I tried to think what Lex would want me to do
At times like this when I was feeling blue
So I gathered up some friends to spread the sad sad news
And we headed to the City for a drink or two
And we sang

"We live to dance another day,
it's just now we have to dance for one more of us,
so stop looking so damn depressed, and sing with all our hearts, long live The Queen"

Guster - "Rainy Day"

I will dig a hole
Save my pennies for a rainy day
I will dig a hole
Savin' pennies for a rainy day
I'm not scared

I will build a wall
Sensing trouble from a mile away
I will build a wall
Saw it comin' from a mile away
I'm not scared
I'm not scared

Try
wearin' your insides out,
I don't even try,
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try

I will just play dumb
I won't hear a single word that's said
I will bite my tongue
Never sing another song again
I'm not scared
I'm not scared

Try
wearing my insides out,
I don't even try,
I know I have seen the best I'll have
I don't even try
Now they want to take my chances
I don't even try

Clouds are comin'
Air gets heavy
Looks like trouble on a rainy day
Sun starts sinking
Can't see my shadow
Looks like trouble on a rainy day
Holes uncovered
Walls will crumble
All spells trouble on a rainy day
