He had cancer that could not be cured for about 4 years.
FUCK CANCER.
I used to rent movies solely on the fact that he appeared in the movie. I miss the indie VHS shops.

He made a pretty good Thunderbolt Ross. I remember seeing Broadcast News and Children of a Lesser God in theaters when I was a kid.
Fuck Cancer.

General Specific
He was a great actor, loved him in Dark City. Sad that he is gone, but cancer for that long must have been terrible.
This is what I came here to say, as well. I never got to see all of Altered States, so Dark City was probably the first thing of his I really got to see.

In the late 70s early 80s my Aunt and Cousins took me to see a bunch of movies I should never have seen at 9&10 years old. Altered States was one of them.
I think I was the only one in my class that recognized A-ha's "Take on Me" video was based partially on Altered States.
