I read this and thought "ok, this has to be a joke ceremony from the cheerleaders themselves and people are taking it too literal"

The girls did come up with the awards and the coach is a female, but damn. It's one thing to joke around locker-room style but at a banquet in front of everyone?

It looks like the coaches getting too involved in the students comradery. Like, it might have been the cheerleaders' idea and the coaches joined in, forgetting they were the adults in the group.
