The new World of Warcraft Faction Change service is now live. As we mentioned previously, [ http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=18031079410&sid=1 ] we’ve been in the process of developing a new service for World of Warcraft that will allow players to change their faction from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance for a fee. After purchasing a Faction Change for a character, a player can choose any race of the opposite faction that is compatible with the character’s class. For more information on the Faction Change service, please read the FAQ, [ http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=FCFAQ ] or visit the Faction Change page [ https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/faction-change-intro.html ] to get started.

Based on further community feedback, we have also decided to offer a race change service in the future. Players who choose to switch races will be able to change their race within their same faction and class. Additional details will be released at a future date.

I won't be using it, but that's pretty cool.

Race change = I'm there. When it comes, of course.

I didn't want to transfer my tauren hunter to alliance but I think I might :/ Friggin all my friends are alliance and they are all changing faction and xfering so I think I might have to when I have money.

#4

Hailey Knight

If all your friends are alliance and changing faction, wouldn't that mean they're turning horde, so your tauren can sit tight?

Cuyval Dar

Or he hates all of his friends, and wants to kill them.

Nah they are changing their horde to alliance is what I meant.

Wonder if you could race change by switching to alliance and then back to horde. Not really worth the money of couse but just out of curiousity.

Nope for now, if you change factions then change back you go back to your original race.

Incorrect:
From the FAQ:
When I change factions, can I select any race for the character?

You may select any race of the new faction provided that it is available for the character's class.

Does that mean I can use this service to change the character back to its original faction?

Absolutely; however, this will require purchasing another Faction Change.

When I change a character back to its original faction, can I select any new race?

Yes. As noted previously, though, you will only be able to select a race that is available to the character's class.

#10

HoboNinja

Oh before they weren't going to allow that, they changed it.

That's a $60 round trip though. I doubt race change will even be $30.

Looks like my rogue I abandoned a couple years back when Legend Knights on Sen'Jin collapsed will be getting a new lease on life as a BE.

Well it's a lot cheaper than I was expecting, that's cool. I don't have much reason to swap to Horde but once I can swap races my Warrior is going to be a Gnome for sure. :D

Now I'd pay for class change, I'd love to check out other classes @ high level without rerolling a new toon

Gared

I don't know if I would change factions or not. I can't really see myself leaving the Horde on a character level, but at the same time, the Alliance side on my server is much more active and has many more end game BoE drop items on the auction house or being advertised in trade chat and a lot more requests for PuG members for end game dungeons and raids.

Hell, I had gotten so bored/burned out on the game (ain't guild drama grand?) that I was leveling an Alliance character and after 3.2 dropped started seeing several new items on AH that would be great for my pally, but when I logged in on the Horde side, none of those items were available (or have been since, which is about a week now) and they're not faction specific items. Can't remember any of them off the top of my head, but they're plate, and they're epics.

What I wanna know though is what effect this is going to have on the current PvP imbalance. Will people who are sick of getting their butts kicked day in and day out switch factions, making the imbalance worse for those who stay? That could be fun to watch.

#19

Pojodan

Both of my 80s have meaningful roles in my guild, and they're not about to switch sides since the horde community on my server is really crappy.

I am tempted to switch my 72 warrior over to try out the horde quest lines and follow the lore while having BoA gear and such, thought.

#20

This is pretty interesting, but $30 for faction (and it doesn't include realm transfer, so +$25 if you want to move at the same time) is a bit pricey imo.

Unfortunately you have to race change to a race available to the other faction, though I figure that, someday, they'll allow any race to be on either faction.

Really tempted to bring my Warlock over to the Horde side. I've missed playing him but haven't felt like leveling another.

Of course I was going to wait and level a Goblin Warlock so I could see all the "new" old world stuff. And I'd need to do a server transfer as well (pvp servers) so it would be pricey.

Decisions, decisions.

Looking through some of my little gnome locks achievements I realized it's worth the 55$ to bring him over. I don't want to leave him behind!

I did the Warlock mounts quests on him. Got Lt. Commander. Little fun (epeen inflating things).

Though like Shego, he'll become a goblin at first chance.

#32

Shegokigo

Shegokigo

In all honesty, my heart is with Horde, but being back on Horde for 2 months did nothing but remind me why I left.

It's desolate. There's little to no life what-so-ever on almost any PVE server Horde Side. End Game guilds are 1-2 to a server, the player pool is non-existant for PUG instances (the new x-server LFG should at least help with that), and the over all "better than you cause I'm a Horde" attitude that so many have is just dull.

That being said, I've used this faction change opportunity to move my Horde Enhancement Shaman (Warlord Title) to Alliance Draenei. I now have one of the few, if ONLY "Field Marshall" Draenei characters in the world.

#33

Frank

Frankie Williamson

There's your issue.

PvE server.

No horde of any real sort exist on PvE servers.

#34

Shegokigo

Shegokigo

Oh I'm aware of that, but for me Lore+End Game Raiding > PVP.

If I wanted to PVP I'd do it on a game specifically tailored for it like WAR or Team Fortress 2. On the other hand, Battlegrounds I find more than enough to satisfy any bloodlusts I get in WoW.

#35

Bellygrub

Bellygrub

I stared with Horde in beta. Went Horde with release. Got to 60, went to Alliance and played there until just before Wrath was released. Then my friends decided to go back to Horde and there we've stayed. I prefer the Alliance (I love gnomes *shrug*) but I'm hoping Goblins can fill that void.

While I'm on a PVP server I find myself farting around with fishing and other nonsense more then PVPing these days. I might as well be on a PVE server anymore.

#36

DarkAudit

Now that you can level by running AV all day, there's no one left in Outland anymore. Or even in the lower levels or Northrend.

Why bother questing when you can rack up the XP, honor, and marks just hanging around the battlemaster instead of wandering all over creation?

With a new player maybe. But for alt 3, 4, or 5, no.

ETA you can always rack up the PvP gear and go back and one-shot your way through the quests you left behind... with the skills of a 70+ instead of a 60.

Even PvE guild wise there are far, far more accomplished raiding guilds hordewise on PvP servers for whatever reason.

#40

Shegokigo

Alts?
Storyline maybe not?
Leveling: From 60-80 I made over 6kg in just quests and selling rewards to vendors. Alt or not, that's good funds.
Gear: you're gonna need, a fresh 80 who's been idling in AV for weeks/months is gonna be worthless for any kind of instance runs or raids.
Speed: Why idle for 3+months in AV when you could do 1-80 in a month with a few hours a day?
Even PvE guild wise there are far, far more accomplished raiding guilds hordewise on PvP servers for whatever reason.
I understand that Frankie, my point is, on PVE servers, Horde has 1-2 End Game raiding guilds per server vs the 4-5 Alliance. There's just more options, more players to pool from, etc.

The xp at 70+ for winning AV is retarded right now Shego, Druid in my guild got from 73-76 by winning (and losing) a batch of games over like, two days.

It's actually getting nerfed though, thanks to AKF'ers.

I was considering the faction change, but right now none of the Alliance races really interest me that much. Horde has been my calling for a long time after burning myself out on the Alliance in Beta, when I played a human rogue. I just found Horde to be a overall better side, the Alliance had a lot of jerks.

That is not much of the case anymore, Blood Elves brought in a fair share of asshats, but I remain pretty loyal. As much as I hate the elitist nature of my server, they get the job done. Horde owns Wintergrasp 80% of the day.

I might transfer one character that I rarely play over as something to sort of get away now and then and try something new, but I don't even know what I would make it, Draenei and Night Elves are the only races that really interest me anymore on that side of the fence.

One of the things that I used to complain about was the disparity between Alliance cities and Horde cities. Alliance have such beautifully constructed cities while the Horde have Undercity and Thunderbluff, etc. Then I started playing a dwarf paladin alt and realized that yeah, Ironforge is a really nice looking city, but every frickin vendor is tucked away somewhere inside a building and up or down 2 flights of stairs. Give me TB any day.

#49

The amount of times I have fallen off Thunder Bluff through sheer inattention makes me really REALLY hate that city. Alot.

#50

Bellygrub

Thunderbluff is my favorite city. Mostly because the anvil is right near the bank. Makes my engineer's life so much easier. Nothing worse then running all the way to the anvil in Orgrimmar and realizing you left something back at the bank or need to buy a mat in the AH. Ugh.

Secondly...it's not dirt :D

Fuck that noise. I jsut let it idle and afk av at work on my laptop. went 72-80 in about 3 days. I just got my old banned warrior back somehow, and I am going to get that bastard up in av 60-80. Use all the honor for 80 gear or a shit ton of gems to sell for cash.

At this point, they are trying to milk as much money as they want. I was never a huge fan of having toons on both factions as the amount of tardation available to the masses of the mundane is unfathomable. Words cannot describe the asshats I dealt with in PVP/PVE who switched over on lvl 1 alts. In previous games such as DAOC, I loved the fact you can only create toons from your faction as the other factions were closed off to you unless you deleted all you existing characters. I missed that.

As far as the game goes, with another expansion in the air... was the last expansion really worth it anyways? Ontop of the 15$ a month, I just don't see why people should pay another 60$ for more content that will tide them over for a few weeks. I heard they didn't even setup the raid to fight Arthas yet.

And I agree with Shego. I played Horde, the amount of slim picking on an elite raid guild was noticable compared to alliance. The race/faction switch is useful as the recruitment officer. It would have easily push us from #87 US to somewhere close to #50 US at the end of the old expansion.

#53

Shegokigo

Some things to note:

My set of Warlord/High Warlord gear changed into Field Marshall/Grand Marshall, BUT the Warlord Graphic was what shows when I wear it. VERY awesome little "artifact".

By switching factions, it acts like you've NEVER done a quest on the Alliance side (if it's Alliance only) so ex: I had done ALL the Horde quests in Nagrand, and my Mag'har reputation was revered, so the only way to gain rep with them anymore was to farm necklaces slowly. When I faction changed, the "rep" changed to Kuranei faction, and since I had done "no quests" with them, I was easily able to get exalted with just a few quests. So it's a bit of a "cheat" to get max reputation with certain factions.

When I was on Horde, the newly released Wintersaber mount equivelant was released. The Venomhide Ravansaur. This mount only required 20days of 1 daily each day. It was relatively easy to get. When I faction changed, all faction specific mounts are changed to their most close "sister" mount. So I got a Wintersaber in exchange!

Bad news. I was going through the Argent Tournament questline, 2 cities away from Crusader when I did the faction switch. For some reason, it completely reset the entire quest line for me and I have to start all over again from the first city. So 5 cities, 5days of dailies each... another month till Crusader. :eek:rly:

All in all, I'm really enjoying all the attention I'm getting for being a "Field Marshal" Draenei. If you get the signficance of that,

I never understood all the Blood Elf hate. Makes no sense to me.

Orcs look like they need to wear rage cages when they're on Lock mounts and even worse in robes so they're out. Undead need to find a proper tailor and just generally look ridiculous. So they're out too. Not to mention I was exalted with Darnassus which transfers over to undercity so all my work on that would have been pointless.

Once Cat rolls around I'll change into a Goblin but I figure I've got about a year till then and shit needs to get done.

Just an FYI, but the Sprite Darter has not been Alliance-Only for awhile now. While you still get a quest to get it as Alliance, Horde can now get it through farming the Sprite Darter NPCs in Feralas. My friend got his in like 15 kills recently, I have just been to lazy to go over there to get mine.

Yes, the entire clash between the Horde and the Alliance has nothing to do with the old demon invasion, cultural differences, territory. It's all about who's the pretty faction.

Coming with Cataclysm: Miss Azeroth Beauty Pageant, a new 10 vs 10 lvl 80-85 battleground.

The Horde has been willing to take anybody who will fight with them regardless of looks. It's the Alliance who's been judging races as evil. That one douchebag knight in Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne is the reason the blood elves went with Illidan. "They are inhuuuuuuman."

To be fair, we have not seen what the Alliance has taken from the Horde. The Alliance pushed hard into the Barrens and took the lower half of it, burning down Camp Taurajo and forcing the Tauren to build a massive wall blocking off Mulgore. There are also a few camps that are very isolated over in Alliance territory, like Kargath, Stonard, and Grom'Gol all being very, very close to Stormwind and Ironforge. Don't be surprised if the Horde loses one, two, or all of those outposts.

Yeah and killing Cairne is a really smart move
That was proven false. MMO-Champion posted that from a post located at Something Awful, and the poster admitted afterward that he wrote the whole thing up as a joke to see how many people would believe it, based on the information he already knew of Cataclysm, thus causing MMO-Champion to immediately take it down.

This was Chris Metzen's favorite Cataclysm picture, showing Thrall and Cairne saving Horde children after the beginning of the Cataclysm. I don't see either of them just being killed off.

The whole reason the person at Something Awful wrote that Cairne was killed by Garrosh was due to a rumor that Baine Bloodhoof, Cairne's son, was being replaced at Bloodhoof Village for another NPC in a few leaked data files. This started rumors that Baine would be taken to Thunderbluff and put in his fathers place as leader NPC, which thus lead to it being included in the fake writeup.

Now Baine could just as likely be taken and turned into one of the first Sunwalkers, or stationed at the new Mulgore Wall to keep out the Alliance. We will have to wait and see for that, but I don't see them killing of Carine.

It could be possible Carine joins Thrall on his pilgrimage after Thrall is almost captured by the Alliance. Metzen said as the most powerful shaman in the world, Thrall is not going to be sitting around in Orgrimmar during this expansion, but instead out trying to save the world from the elemental upheaval that has come in the wake of Deathwing's return. That is really the only reason Garrosh is giving so much leeway to do what he wants right now, Thrall is dealing with more important issues, and I can see Carine, a very spiritual and shamanic person himself, joining, thus why they have that promotional picture I posted above.

Edit. I Saw that! Yes Thrall is still doing off on his pilgrimage, we actually learn that was what he was doing in the Goblin starting zone when SI:7, the Stormwind Spy and Assassin Guild, attempted to sink his ship and then capture him, causing the Goblins to join when the Alliance also sank their ship for almost coming between them and their "prize" while out at sea. The thing is that Thrall is still just going to be a shaman, not "The Guardian" like the fake writeup post. This is the person that is going to be the new Guardian, Med'an, son of Garona and Medivh.

This, I really hope some updated models are in the works for the other leaders like Varian, Sylvanas and Varimathras recieved. Thrall and Jaina especially have always bothered the hell out of me.

#82

Don't hold me to this, but I hear Thrall and Jaina are both going to get some decent upcoming updates. We got to saw a bit of Jaina's upcoming model during the 3.1 trailer, but why they have held off releasing it on the live servers I don't even have a clue.

Thrall is actually most likely going to get his model update for Cataclysm, since he has a larger role to play in it. Rexxar got a model upgrade for Burning Crusade, and Sylvanas got an upgrade for WOTLK, so I really see Thrall getting the treatment soon.

Yeah, I figure Thrall and Garrosh, possibly even Cairne will see some upgrades in Cataclysm thanks to larger roles in the story (or so the various previews seem to hint, I suppose). Jaina just needs to not look like a level 20 Mage, especially since she's right next to one of my favorite character designs (Varian).
