Your definitive Batman Artist

#1

As the title and Poll state, who is your definitive Batman Artist? Shamelessly ripped off from a CBR poll, I was surprised by the results from that site and thought it might be interesting to see the Halforums breakdown (which I suspect will be quite different).

So have at it, I'll place my vote in a bit, once some others are in.

I'm going Bruce Timm on this, though I've seen more of his cartoon art than the comics. I've always dug his style.

I'm proud that you have Breyfogle on the list. Man that was 25 years ago.

But to me Adams and Aparo were the "Classic" Batman look, Norm was just my fave.[DOUBLEPOST=1351790806][/DOUBLEPOST]

I am vengeance. I am the night. I am BRUCE TIMM.

When I picture Batman in my head, it's always the Aparo version. I LOVE that Arkham city had that style of skin for Batman.

Andy Kubert is also conspicuously missing from that list, as well. I hate his art style, but he was a pretty prominent artist for Batman.

Man, I had to google Jim Aparo and Neal Adams because I swore that the pic Bowie posted was Neal Adams. They both have a very similar style in drawing Batman. Different storytelling techniques as far as the comic form itself, but very similar art styles for Bats.

Neil Adams is by far my favorite X-Men artist. He's the only one who drew pre-siege perilous Psyloche well.

Matt Groening Psylocke? ;)

I said pre-siege perilous.

I knew what you meant, but Psylocke is a crazy asian assassin in most people's minds now, and not the sheltered British waif she original intended to be. My preference for her in that stage was her armored uniform which didn't last too long.

I did like the Crimson Dawn red tattoo across her eye though after the Siege Perilous.

No Frank Quitely Covar? What the hell?[DOUBLEPOST=1351830837][/DOUBLEPOST]Seriously though, Jim Aparo is the Batman I remember growing up with and is still how I think of Batman.

On this list I'd say Neil Adams tied with Norm Breyfogle. Personally I have a hard time deciding between Kelly Jones and Matt Wagner.

I just stuck with the CBR options, which is why there's a few odd choices on there like Jim Lee.

Oh man, Kelly Jones. I LOVE their work. It's so creepy, gothic, twisted. So great for horror, like Sandman, and really getting across Batman's menacing side.

My ONLY complaint about his Batman are those long flipping ears. He does it in all his work.

It was just a joke harkening back to our disagreements about Frank Quitely.

I love the big ears :) Jones has this great exaggerated horror style that takes after the master, Bernie Wrightson (whom everyone here should know and love). I know that he isn't everyone's cup of tea but I love his work so much.

I gotta go with Adams. This guy introduced the realistic style that is the industry standard today. He just drew a really badass Batman, a version and style that would carry on for years to come.

Hey, is she gonna use that soul taker sword to smack people with the flat of it? Cool. As long as she doesn't ever, you know, cut anyone with a edged weapon.

Batman needs to be extreme considering the new adversaries that he must face:

Calling it right now, Alfred will be voiced by Keith David. He just looks...Keith Davidish.
Batman needs to be extreme considering the new adversaries that he must face:
....Professor Pig? Really? This is the villain they expect kids to enjoy? Yeah, because a guy who's known exploits are modifying humans to be mindless genderless walking bombs is gonna FLY by. The Joker gas was all-ready a stretch, I don't see how they'd get away with that.
