Your Holiday Haul

#1

ThatNickGuy

ThatNickGuy

Good tidings and spending time with those you love? Psh. Screw that noise. Here's the real question:

What'd ya get!?

My haul:
-Batman Arkham City (with Arkham Asylum!)
-A bunch of clothes from Mountain Equipment Co-op (picked out by me last week)
-Cold hard cash from my sister

Not a huge haul for me, but it's been good. Not to be all sappy, but the real present for me is being able to be home for 5 weeks, spending time with my family, before returning to school.

Gared

Gared

My Christmas haul was combined with my wedding haul, so it's large and to be honest, a little overwhelming.

$2600.00 from various family members
New glasses (highball and old fashion)
A nice shirt
16pc Cuisinart 3-ply stainless steel pots and pans set
Set of 4 wine glasses (goblets, for red wine)
Bottle of red wine
Digital picture frame pre-loaded with photos from the wedding
Toaster/convection oven
Bath robe and comfy slippers
$25 gift card to Amazon
A Shun "ultimate utility" knife
A cookbook all about soup
More to come tomorrow from my parents, because so far we've only done the wedding and Christmas with my in-laws.

Oh, and because she has a strange habit of buying multiples of things that people already have, my mother-in-law read all through both wedding registries and decided to buy the one thing that wasn't listed. A crock-pot. But not just any crock-pot, oh no. This is a set of three crock-pots in a buffet server; because she remembers that one time that we had them over for dinner and I baked a hot dip in the oven instead of using a crock-pot because something else was in the crock-pot (actually, it was because the recipe called for it to be baked, instead of cooked in a crock-pot). What the hell am I going to do with 4 crock-pots? We figure next year she's going to get us 5 blenders or 7 tea kettles.

#12

Tress

Tress

Some snazzy wall decor
Great books
Expensive cologne
Some Munchkin stuff
$25 amazon gift card
$25 iTunes gift card
1600 XBox Live points
An interesting college football documentary

...and a new iPhone 4S! Which is extra awesome because my old shitty phone (I was still rockin' a Razr from 2006) was about to die. So all in all this was a great Christmas haul.

Much as I get your thing with the mother-in-law from the rant thread, I've actually seen good use for that triple set. My aunt uses a triple crock pot set to cook sides; ex: today, one had mashed potatoes, another had a green bean casserole, and another had... I can't remember, but it's probably in my fridge. There is a way of using them.

I'm lucky I only got hand-me-downs from my family--they expect us to eventually replace the stuff. Unfortunately, if you don't have a use for them, you'll probably never be able to get rid of them since she'll be looking for them to be in use whenever she comes over.

Actually the worst part is, I'm sure that if I get rid of them, as soon as I do something will come up and I'll think to myself "Man, if only I had another crock-pot or 2." So they'll either go in a closet or into storage for the rest of forever because someday I might need more than one crock-pot.

I've gotten:

Bunch of Heroes (From Nick)
Dogfighter (from Seraphyn.)
Limbo (from Kate!, which is really cool)
Pajamas and underwear from my parents (Christmas Eve tradition).
A heated neck massager and a devotional book.

Minor awesomeness aside, I did not the immaterial gift I was really hoping for. On top of that I've felt really sick all day.

I got a bottle of Baerenjaeger honey liquor and the Warhammer 40K core rulebook (hardcover, not the mini), a $20 amazon gift card, and a set of paints for my WH40K miniatures - gunmetal, bloody red, primer white, and black. I'm really chuffed.

I also got myself a bottle of John L. Sullivan Irish Whiskey, and it's really good. It has a kind of vanilla component to it's aroma, and is very smooth.

It works well in coffee or hot cocoa, too.

You want to try something new with Sprite (or Sierra Mist, or especially Ginger Ale), try Seagram's 7 Dark Honey. Oh man.

North_Ranger

- Xbox 360, Skyrim and a $100 Amazon gift certificate from you guys :)
- the newest Jeeves compilation
- tickets to a Clannad concert in April
- a book on Oriental erotica :unibrow:
- movie tickets
- about two pounds of various chocolates, of which about 1/3 has mysteriously disappeared. Hmmm... elves. Yes, it must be elves.
- Centurion on DVD. Never seen it, so it can be awesome or complete crap. What made it heartwarming, though, was that it was from my brother-in-law, who had apparently been out shopping, seen this and gotten it because he thought I might like it. And this is a guy who has to be prodded with sticks to get him to do anything :)
- $400 in cash, part of which will be spent on revitalizing the local economy via purchase of DVDs (namely Paul, Rare Exports etc.) and RPG books.

I actually decided against the going out on Christmas Eve and stayed in. I bought LOTR Extended Edition Blu Ray and bounced between that, making food, being lazy on the internets and just glad not to be at work. LOTR in HD is breath taking. I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

Oh, and I got engaged. ^_^

oh and my cats got one of those prepackaged stockings from walmart full of cat toys. they are all good toys except for one weird thing. There is a sponge with a drawing of a happy cat getting bathed on it. So I have come to the conclusion that the people who made this product do not have cats and may have never encountered a cat in their lives.

Congrats! That's a gorgeous ring, btw.

Oh, and added to my big list from before (like I said, prezzies this year were almost a bit overwhelming) I also got:
A new digital camera (a nice one) that I can use to figure out what different types of lighting and effects, etc. do when taking photos and then apply that to my actual film camera.
A new set of dinner plates and salad plates
A new set of pasta bowls that match the plates
A bench scraper
A microplane grater/zester
A new pastry brush

The best part is that with the new dishes we can finally take all of our old, partial sets to Goodwill and clear a LOT of clutter out of the kitchen.

Oh, I know it. So much better for grating spices and zesting citrus than my current rasp graters. Now we just have to get some groceries in the house so I can actually use some of my new cooking tools and dinnerware. And so, you know, we don't starve.
