Youtube bans "Amazing Athiest"

No, he's pretty much just a piece of shit. He earned that label when he threatened to rape a rape victim during an arugment.

And if he had a channel calling for expanded government or something you don't particularly like, you'd be cheering. Well, the GB version of cheering, which would probably involve typing a short rant about how he got what he deserved and babbling about the impending balkanization of the US.

That is pretty heinous.

Actually, as I said, I only liked some of his videos, and others I did not. Also, note I never (as in have, am, or will) call for anyone's banning from youtube, be it Anna Sarkeesian, any particular political party, or even that smug asshole over on the PBS idea channel.

I mean, look at him.

That asshole could solve global warming all on his own just by covering half the globe with all that smug.

Of course, youtube/google is a private enterprise and can ban anyone they see fit for any or no reason. It's just a topic for debate about whether you agree with that decision or not.

I'm tired so just imagine there's a paragraph about how I'm anti-censorship and oppose restrictions on free speech including hate speech, yada yada, but YouTube is a private company that has the right to limit if they want even though I think that's dumb.

And also I think he is a mean-spirited jerk.[DOUBLEPOST=1377114932,1377114846][/DOUBLEPOST]
even that smug asshole over on the PBS idea channel.
Ugh, why did you remind me. Man I cannot stand that guy.

Also, you have to take into account this is probably not something Google did lightly. Agree or disagree, like or hate him, the guy got lots of views, which means he was a revenue engine on their behalf. They've made the decision he's not worth the money he makes them.

Google has been hit with a number of lawsuits for hate speech videos, among other lawsuits. Since they are making money off them and they clearly are policing content generally, they are finding that they are legally liable for content which may be considered hate speech.

This is basically what I thought this was about. Google is under no obligation to provide Amazing Atheist with a venue to speak and could potentially be held liable for his speech if they continue to host it. The fact that he's unable to understand their obligations and consequences is pretty much par for the course for his reactions.

Do you have citations for these lawsuits?

There are a few that can be found here:

But my understanding, and know that I'm getting this third or fourth hand, is that most such lawsuits are settled out of court with both sides agreeing not to discuss the lawsuits publicly. Google has processes put in place now for people to report hate speech videos, and similar to DMCA complaints, they simply remove the video and then expect the person who put it up to fight for it to actually be reviewed. I think the bar is still pretty high, though, it takes more than a few reports of hate speech for them to act.

There's a whole massive list of people that need to be removed from Youtube.

- Anyone that puts a pair of breasts in their video thumbnail
- Anyone who makes a Lets Play or a gameplay video where they talk over everything
- Anyone who titles their video after something popular for the sole purpose of getting views
- Anyone who has ever been invited to or attended a Youtube convention
