[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

"Honestly the most humane thing Tim could do for his characters, if he cares about them, is kill them off quickly and painlessly."

Or just write out characters with no explanation! That is MUCH better.

I think that's what he meant.
Really? But doesn't killing someone off mean we know what happened to them? Meaning Kurtz would have to put effort into his writing? Meaning doing the exact opposite of what he's been doing for the past few years?

Because I'm not sure he's killed many characters off then.

I think Kurtz will just keep on putting people on the bus (Gwen? Miranda? Reggie? Those two slobs and Butler...?) until there's no one left but LolBat.

1st panel:
"Hai? Where iz evrybody?"

2nd panel:
*looking into an empty cubicle*
"Hello? Can I haz cheezburger?"

3rd panel:
*standing on a deserted road with debris floating past in the breeze*
"... I iz all alone."

4th panel:
*close-up of LolBat grinning and giving two thumbs up*
"BEST. COMIX. EVER."

You know what I love most about PvP? The gaping plot-holes. Like how Brent says he was always a Mac user, even though he was originally shown using Amiga products. Or how Skull is now "assexual" even though early on he was a male troll pretending to be female! Does anyone else thinks Kurtz needs a damn editor?

Would that have been possible in 1998?

I didn't think that Amiga was still going at that point.

Edit: It appears that you were correct

As I've said before in this thread, those comics were always determined to be "pre-crisis."

And lets not forget the confusing Samwise debacle. Is Samwise in the past, or is it in a UO server? Is Skull a former monster from the game, or is he a creature made from human imagination that happened to program monster AI? It is CONFUSING. There are just way- WAY too many plot-holes with the Samwise storyline alone.

Also another weird thing about how Skull is assexual when in one storyline where Brent lost his pony tail, Skull got a hair potion from his "Mom and Dad". How the hell can he have two parents?! THAT IS NOT HOW ASSEXUALITY WORKS! I have never thought I would be so damned confused over the sexuality of a damn fictional troll.

Also notice how Skull's personality fluctuates as the plot went on. Early on, Skull was a generally stereotypical troll who even ate Francis on occasion. However a little later after the art shift, Skull became soft personality wise as well as seeming to have the mentality of a child(even though he is supposedly hundreds of years old).

One last plot-hole would be the addition of Cole's son to the supporting cast( I can't remember the son's name). The fact that this character exists is stranger because of how much of a deal it was when Cole realized he was having a baby with Donna? As if the whole concept seemed alien to him? As if they have never had a child before. However with the origin of PvP storyline, we learn that Cole and Donna HAD a child before their daughter. So the entire shock of Cole becoming a father made absolutely no sense, once we learn that Cole was all-ready a stinkin' dad!! IT MADE NO SENSE! Sure, maybe the character basis had two kids BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT! It.Is.Just.CONFUSING!

And that's all I got for right now.

Edit:
LOL, I almost completely forgot that Reggie existed.
Ooooooooooh yeah. What happened to him? After he and Miranda broke up he just disappeared, and Miranda became completely insufferable.

I would imagine that the same thing happened to Reggie that happened to Jase, Robbie, and Butler. They live in Texas, and the rest of the cast moved to Seattle. There's no reason for any of them to appear in the comic anymore, unless it's by a phone call or a flashback.

Again, most of that is pre-crisis. PVP doesn't rely on a hard timeline for it's setup, the characters evolve over time, and their history changes to reflect this. It's pretty common to see in ongoing comic strips that don't rely on heavy canon and callbacks to previous points in history.

Are there criticisms to be made against pvp? Absolutely, but there are far more valid points than these, these are just nitpicking for the sake of having something to rant on.

True it is nitpicking(one of my favorite hobbies), but I feel there is something there that I can truly criticize Kurtz for. What is said criticism? The fact that Kurtz hardly makes fun of himself any more. He used to make fourth wall jokes all the time, even Jade would joke about how she's designed differently. Now? The characters just try WAY too hard to be real. For fucks sake- BE CARTOONY AGAIN! Kill Brent and have him come back the next comic, have random fictional characters come out of no-where, BE SILLY! I miss the sillyness.

Plus, let's not forget that "pre-crisis" was an excuse kurtz invented after somebody started pointing out continuity errors to him. There never really was a "crisis on infinite PVPs" or anything.

Plus we all know that Kurtz didn't REALLY mean to reboot, looking at how much he hates on CAD for doing a reboot. That would make him a hypocrite wouldn't it?
