[TV] Winter HAS COME! - A Game of Thrones

Like Jay and others, I've complained openly about how GRRM is wasting spending his time NOT writing the books.

My wife's reaction before she started reading them: Stop bitching and just let the man live his life the way he wants.

My wife's reaction now that she's two books in: Dammit, old man, get back to work! Don't you know you're gonna die someday?!

Come on, guys. Prioritize. I'd much rather have a Game of Thrones iPhone app than Winds of Winter.

He better fuckin' finish the series before I croak of cancer, or I swear, I'll haunt his bearded, captain's-hat-wearing ass.

He's made an effort as of late... though I'd like to have some sort of guideline when the next book comes out... it's been what... 2 years now? I really hope we need not wait 3 more years.

For me, it's like a grouchy turtle race, waiting to see whose book takes longer - GRRM's next, or Patrick Rothfuss'

I was so mad at my brother for getting me into the Kingkiller Chronicle after I had caught up on A Song of Ice and Fire. Get me hooked on another amazing, unfinished series.... jerk.

I assume it takes about half a year for a book his size to get checked and go by all the processes to be published.

It took four months.

I think the publisher had people ready and waiting when he was getting near finished considering the amount of time they'd been waiting for it. In a normal situation, yes.

So two years from finished will be April 2013, though I don't know if I'd hold the space against him considering even he deserves a small break after a project so monstrous. If he works slowly, I'm okay with it, so long as he's actually working on it, and not screwing around with fantasy football.

Reading A Feast for Crows now, about 200 pages in. Didn't really occur to me before starting that the book would first have to deal with reeling from the effects of the last book.

New POV characters: interesting.

Loving the Cersei chapters. Practically everyone she sees or talks to she suspects of being involved in Tyrion's escape or Tywin's death, except Jaime, and it's driving her nuts. Didn't really expect Kevan Lannister to grow a pair either, but it seems his obedience was only to his brother, not to his brother's children. Serves Cersei right. She never once gave a thought that he'd have his own life or point of view beyond doing Tywin's bidding. Loving it.

Finished Feast today.

Pretty much agree with others. There was a lot that could've been edited out and even though Martin says the books were done this way to complete character arcs, I didn't feel like much of that actually happened.

I did chuckle at seeing his explanation on the back of the paperback, hoping that Dance would be out in the next year--message dated 2005.

At least his last few blog entries have him stating he's writing. He even provided a sample chapter that I won't bother to read just yet. Last 2 books are supposed to be 1500 pages each....

More of a Dany after a Bran chapter? GODDAMNIT

|I never liked reading Bran chapters, he's the worst.

well played sir.

Also is the show about to start up again? Because if not QUIT POSTING IN THIS THREAD BECAUSE IT MAKES ME THINK THE SHOW IS ABOUT TO START UP AGAIN.

Bran, for me, kinda suffers from "boring protagonist syndrome" where I like his story, but almost all the side characters - Hodor, Luwin, Meera & Jojen, to name a few - are just more interesting than him. The most he gets from me is a bit of pity because of the whole leg thing.

The main problem, I think, is that Bran's a bit too young. He's, what, 6 in the books? Yes, GRR has said he intended all of the children to be older (and they are, in the series - Robb's 14!), but it still hampers him a lot. You just can't let a 6 year old have incredibly wild adventures.

As of the end of book 3 he's half Meera's age. She's 16.

Of course the original plan was for a time skip between book 2 and 3, back when it was still a trilogy, so at the start he wasn't planning any wild adventures for an 8 year old (except in flashbacks i guess).[DOUBLEPOST=1357951446][/DOUBLEPOST]
