New Free Mega Man Game Coming

The long and short of it is that Capcom had little, if any hand in this aside from letting it be released. The game was in development in 2010 by a fan who basically shutdown by Capcom's lawyers. It looks like they just took the materials, gave him a pittance, and (maybe) polished it up a bit to silence the critics who say they don't care about Mega Man anymore. Here's a video from 2010 to prove it's existence.

In other words, this is Capcom making a shallow attempt to reclaim some of the fan base they lost when Legends 3 was cancelled and they are doing a half-assed job of it.

Cannot get download link to load...

That's okay. I can wait until the servers get some relief.

Keyboard controls aren't ideal, but so far, the Ryu level is pretty uninspired with Ryu himself being a lot of fun as a boss fight.

I didn't even have to use xpadder. The game recognized my ps2 controller and automatically set it as the controller. I forgot I had it plugged in from earlier and was wondering why nothing on the keyboard was working.

Playing the game itself, I realized I still suck at mega man games. The 2 levels I played so far were fun. They had extra paths to grab health or energy along the way. It relied a bit too much on having to charge your weapon for enemies but oh well. I agree the ryu stage was a little uninspired platforming wise but the other one seemed better with the difficulty of the enemies making it more challenging.

I have to dig out my 360 controllers from whatever crate they're stored in. I always used them as PC controllers and haven't needed them since I moved.

This game has no password system or saves.

That's fucking unforgivable.

Did the later Mega Man games have that? I know for a fact the first one didn't.

Aside from the first one, yes. Every early mega man game used a password system, and later series either kept with the passwords for old times sake, or had actual savegames.

Did yoooou ever beat the original Mega Man? Not many of us could back then. Took me a couple years to finally crack it.

Never could beat 2...
Yes I did beat the first one. You had to face the Rock Monster twice in that game, which is where I was stuck for the longest time. Once I finally mastered getting past the first one, every other boss and level came easy to me, even the second one.

Yep. Fire Elec-Man's weapon at him. Let it hit the eye, and mash the hell out of the select button. The pause timing throws off the shot, resulting in a point of damage about every other press. The shot stays on him, too, so you can easily one-shot him.

Use that trick, and he is literally the easiest enemy in the game to kill.

No, didn't do that. Timed the rocks, jumped to the timing. Shot the thing.

Then again, I'm the guy who played Wolverine to the end, counted how many times I hit Sabertooth (in the 300's) and finally gave up since I realized the game had to be bugged.

Mega Man 2 is basically where the formula for the series was established. Mega Man 1 had most of the elements, but MM2 solidified it.
