Adam, dressed in the most audacious pimp gear available, saunters casually to the stand after a brief introduction from his assistant, Bill Gates.
"First of all, I'd like to thank you all for coming today. This press conference is being simulcast live across the globe in 307 languages including, for the first time ever, White Knight speak.
This has been a horrible year for us at Adam Inc. While we've had to let go most of our staff due to the downturn in the economy, it's our upper management who have suffered most. Our board of directors, for example, have only been able to attend 11 conferences this year held at high end resorts in the Caribbean versus their customary 12. I understand their frustration and hope to reassure those suffering under this terrible tragedy that their pleas have been heard.
It is with a happy heart that I announce the "Adam Inc Family Purchase Plan". For our Y class executives and above, we will be providing the option to buy, rent or lease a Halforums family of your very own for a full year. We believe that this benefit will provide our hardworking executives an opportunity to expand their family tax credits beyond their existing dependent network, thus resulting in a greater after tax income than previously realized.
This offer is not valid for Stienman or his brood unfortunately. Even I can't afford that amount of people. Double tax credits for taking Charlie.

The time difference can be exploited. Google finance is showing a real time price of 5.70 (and dropping) for DQ, but I was able to sell it at the opening price of 5.80 on the stock trader app.
Looks like time delay trading might be possible, though I wonder if it's only for certain exchanges or stocks. Something to look into until the next split, anyway.

The biggest problem is that the APIs sent out by the stock exchanges are on 15 minute delays. There's no way around it.
Really the only way to make this kind of game totally realistic and even would be for the stocks to be real, but the actual stock price be randomized somehow and not reflective of the real world prices.

Seeing as how companies pay actual money for something even resembling real-time quotes, it seems unlikely in a forum game unless an actual trading company tossed us a feed for lulz.
That can be mitigated by making forcing users to hold their stocks for longer than the trading delay window. As long as you can't buy and sell a stock in under, say, 30 minutes then while it can be exploited, it's much harder to do so, and you have to watch the market throughout the day to catch the one time selling will make a difference for you.
Between that and fixing the stock split issue, we could probably have a very competitive and fairly balanced game. Yes, those that watch the market all day like hawks will have a slight advantage, but that's going to be true in almost any game.

Might as well wait until the stock split bug is fixed. There's no point in closing a tiny loophole when there's a huge gaping loophole that can be exploited weekly.
