[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

I still pretty much read it every day, no matter how many times I say I'm going to stop, because it's part of my routine. I don't know when the last time was that I found one actually laughably funny, but the same can be said of pretty much all of the webcomics I read. I read them for story more than for laughs.

I still use Telnet.

At work.

To play a MUD. Because it doesn't look like a game to people who don't know what a MUD is.

The MUD's been around since 1994 or so. People have met on the MUD, gotten married in real life, and their children have started playing.

Found out about my wife on a MUD. We didn't get along but we had mutual friends. And then we had a party at her house and the rest is hissssstory.

I don't know if it's universal, but there's a running gag on my MUD that "there are no female mudders."

There are also official MUD parties, annual gatherings where everyone can meet in real life. And there are several female mudders who take the opportunity to prove that they are, in fact, female. One of them was famous for wearing a chainmail bikini to every official MUD party. Had the body for it, too.

I am now inspired to go log onto my MUD again.

At one point the young, female MUDders were far more numerous than the male MUDders. I'm not quite sure why but it led to a lot of drama. A lot of sexy times, but a lot of drama.

Was she Taiwanese? I'm sorry, but Taiwanese girls are better looking than mainlanders. (even if their voices are somewhat high pitched)

If I use the abbreviation TS, do you know what it means in that context?

What MUD do you play, bhamv3? Is it newbie friendly? You made my MUD itch come back.
The MUD I play is called Three Kingdoms, you can find its website at 3k.org. It's pretty newbie friendly, since it's been around for nearly two decades, it's had time to iron out most of the kinks. If you ever see Sheltem on there, that's me.

YOU DON'T GET TO KEEP YOUR ITEMS WHEN YOU QUIT THE SESSION!? WHAT!?

I tried to "keep" them and i still drop them on "quit" :(

Oh yeah, a lot of new people are surprised by that. I like to explain it like it's in Star Wars, when Obi Wan died, his robe and lightsaber fell to the ground where he'd stood, and he ascended to a higher plane. When you quit out of the MUD, your inventory is left in the room you quit out from.

Basically, it sounds like you want to find a secluded/protected place and log out so no one jacks your shit.

Yep, and there are player houses where you can do exactly that.

Well, things are a bit more complicated, sometimes, what with item and room resets, and some items being binding, and the MUD rebooting every few days, etc etc. But the general idea is that, yes, it is possible for you to quit out and log back in to retrieve your stuff.

The MUDs I used to play DEFINITELY also saved the items you have. I guess maybe 3kingdoms is less item-centric? Cause I'd be pissed as hell is the epic gear it took me 500 million experience to get just drops when the power goes out.
