I did post this status in celebration of the anniversary of my first date with one General Specific
Over the past eight months, my life has totally transformed. I have discovered that I do not have to give up who I am in order to take on a partner. This ball busting feminist has a man who will stand beside her, supporting anything she might dream of doing. We hold each other’s hand, call the other person out on their crap, and don’t let ourselves hide behind the veil of bitterness that we once held on to. No secrets. No shame. No matter what. I have found my life partner, the man who compliments me. I was already a whole person, but he made me stronger. I know he’ll always be there no matter what I chose to do with my life.
8 months, 8 minutes, 8 seconds or 8 years- any time I have with him is wonderful. He’s the first lady to my president and I intend to run for consecutive terms.
Ah. You understand. I have the same relationship with Kati. It is so hard to describe it to people, and when I am successful, they only get jealous.

Is it weird that I read this as Beetlejuice speaking in Lydia Deets's voice?

Sorry, but..I'm just really having some love for my husband right now. This morning I got to work, went to listen to my same boring song list, but found a bunch of new songs in a new playlist that he made for me on my phone. It's just...so sweet! And it makes me happy. :) I mean, people always talk about how 'it's the little things in life'. Well, he does the little things. And I love him. :)

I continue to be envious of your amazing relationship, Kags. When do I get a "Nate" of my own?! :(

Oh well, my best friend is happy, so that makes me happy too! :sohappy:

I feel refreshed! I got so frustrated this afternoon. One of the big things about our school is that "the kids own it." What this means is that we encourage them to be proactive in their learning and develop projects of their own to show their learning. Obviously, this can't always be done, but the students often come up with wonderful projects! My first year, instead of a poster project, a student invented a board game that showed his understanding of the rock cycle and weathering. It was amazing; it showed a deep level of understanding and was used as a tool in class for students. Bottom line is that we encourage students to learn how to take charge of their learning.

Well, long story short, this year 3rd and 5th grade are terrible at doing that. They don't meet the bare minimum of what I need them to do and expect more independence in return. I've tried many different things to engage them more, but many of them refused to meet me halfway. I knew deep down that I wasn't doing a bad job, but I still felt miserable.

Well, 3 of the teachers I admire the most sat me down today and told me I needed to stop running myself ragged for these kids. They assured me that I was doing everything I needed to do and told me to concentrate on teaching these students to deal with the consequences of their actions. I get so nervous about covering everything I want to cover that I forget about the other lessons they need to learn in school. They're right. Their words filled me with relief and made me ready to come back from Mardi Gras break and get to work!

"You're more natural in a classroom than any teacher I've ever seen." Those extremely flattering words will sustain me, no matter what happens from now on. It's going to be ok. :)

And hangovers.
That's any night of the week, officer. Actually, that's something I find really disappointing about my home, and I wonder how we stack up against other states/cities. People just... drive drunk here all the damn time. I almost got t-boned a few months back on a Saturday night by this girl who was just throwing her head back laughing and peeling out into the intersection. It's scary sometimes.

According to MADD's "Information by State" page; Louisiana ranks 36th in the nation for DUI related deaths. The ranking is based on percentage of traffic fatalities that involved DUIs, with 1 being the lowest percentage and 51 being the highest). Though several of their tracked stats are unavailable for last year (number of 3-time and 5-time offenders, for example), there were 226 DUI fatalities in 2011 and a total of 1449 over the past 5 years (I'm assuming up to 2011).

Georgia ranks 3rd with 277 DUI deaths in 2011 as well as 45,598 reported 3-time offenders and 5,782 reported 5-time offenders. Total DUI fatalities over last 5 years is 1755.

I got to submit my kitchen for consideration in the My Drunk Kitchen tour!

I know it's a small chance, but I am hopeful I made a good impression and it was fun to do anyway.

I sent along this gem when asked for photographic proof my kitchen exists:

Drive-Through Daiquiri Huts. That's the one thing that always stood out to me when I lived in Louisiana. "Don't Drink and Drive" but come by Daiquiri Dash before heading home from work!

The thing that stood out to me about Louisiana was that there was nothiiiiing to do. I could not figure it out. Lafayette was the strangest place. It's not a small town, but what do the people do? I couldn't figure it out until I'd lived there a couple of years. The answer is family. Everyone is so interrelated (I don't mean that in a bad way) that they get together in family groups and entertain each other. Which makes it a pretty boring town for outsiders to live in.

I love the outdoors, and thought that "Sportsman's paradise" would be awesome, but there's very littl public access to the wilderness (unless you have a boat). It's all private land when you can find rural areas. It seems really hard to get out of town anyway. Suburb-like areas sprawl all around Lafayette in all directions, because all of the buildable land is right along the roads. When I was looking for a rural house, I'd see adverts for 5 acre plots, only they're arranged like 1x5 so that you own a football field, basically, because everyone needs access to the road. Kind of defeats the purpose of a big lot when you're right up next to your neighbor still.

That's why a lot of people move. Actually, a coworker just got a great deal on a house because a guy and his wife wanted so badly to move back to New Orleans. There's always something going on there. People in Lafayette think they're friendly, but I've met warmer people on Frenchman street lately... and not drunk tourists.

Just got back from meeting up with an old friend from high school. I hadn't talked to this guy in forever. It was nice catching up, having some beer, and just enjoying a laid back night.

My laptop's been busted for weeks. With enough recovery programs and scans and whatnot I was FINALLY able to localise the problem and beat it. Laptop runs as good as ever, minus a small bit of RAM that's been isolated. A corrupted RAM sector's apparently a good way to get your computer to behave as if the hard drive's shot to hell.
Don't exactly trust my computer right now, but as long as it holds....(Yes, I guess I should just man up and replace the memory :p)

Got a lot done today. Spent 8am-1pm or so out and about job-hunting, got home and cleaned up the kitchen, walked the dogs (walking 4 at one time is harder than you'd think), and took one of those magic eraser pad things to the stair rails to get all that hand oil and dirt off of them. I think I've earned a beer and some video games today, damnit.

My wife is wondering how long it will take the sphere of chaos surrounding Jet to pull this thing into his clutches.
Not long, I am sure.

I should really take a picture of my living room right now. The day care was forced to close early last week do to a pipe bursting. They only reopened today.

MOTHER OF GOD. My house is wrecked.
