[Webcomic] The Order of the Stick thread

New update from Rich on the Kickstarter 1 year anniversary....

Project Update #56: I Stopped By the Deli and Got You Flowers on the Way Home
Posted by Rich Burlew

Today is the one-year anniversary of the end of this pledge drive and our long fulfillment together. I bet you thought I forgot.
In celebration, I am releasing the first of the digital stories that I should have had for you a few months ago. It's the Belkar Bitterleaf prequel story that was bought and paid for by one generous backer. I ended up making a bunch of last-minute revisions this week that pushed the completion back a little—I think I went back two boxes on the Workometer before going forward. This "8-10 page story" is coming in at 12 pages, too, so, you know, business as usual for me. The story will be available through a second backer-only update that I'll send in a few minutes, so check your email inbox for that.
I'm also happy to announce that I'm going to start working on the digital portraits (the "Stick It to You" and "Stick It to Your Family" packages). They don't take much more thumb effort than the regular comic, so I'm going to tackle them this upcoming week. No idea yet how quickly they'll go, though, so it may take a few weeks to get them all done. If you have one of those packages and haven't sent in your reference photos, do so now to kickstarter@giantitp.com (with the subject line "DIGITAL PORTRAIT REFERENCE.") I've also been sending more of the signed Patience packages; I have a huge stack of international envelopes for which I just have to fill out customs forms and they're ready to go.
Here's where the Workometer stands now:

I wish I had something special and inspirational to say on the occasion of the anniversary. All I can think of is how many unlit boxes are left on that Workometer a year later. My hand has been getting stronger, though, which has helped me with the amount I can draw before having to rest. I guess my new goal is to make sure it's all done so far in advance of the second anniversary that we don't even bother talking about it in those terms.
Thanks again for all the support and well-wishes, and keep an eye out for Belkar in your inbox. He'll probably start stabbing your important emails if you leave him unread for too long.

P.S. In case you haven't been keeping up with the regular comic updates, here are the latest pages:

Seems like there're more comic updates coming more frequently. His hand must be getting much better.

I'm also wondering if he ever got that Cintaq tablet he mentioned he might get with the extra money. Ask me, he deserves it.

Durkon seems to be stubborn as hell... yet I cannot think of any way he could have done differently, considering the kind of dwarf he is.

I'm curious to see how this ends. In a way, it had to happen - Durkon couldn't possible stay in the OotS if another member was a vampire....So either we're getting two vampires, or one of them dies, or somehow someone manages to stop/undo the damage....But I'm curious to see where it goes. Dammit!

Forgot about that.

Heal does 10 points per caster level. To cast it you have to be level 11. So he just did at least 110 points of damage (55 if the dude saved). That's a lot.

Chances are good he didn't save, considering none of his spells can overcome Durkon's resists. This is probably one of the few times when being a Healing Cleric is actually more advantageous than being an offensive one.

That's pretty in character for Thor, at least he isn't arguing about whether or not he's the father this time.

This is going to end up with ether Durkon or Malack dead... and Malack has the advantage. He's getting +5 HP every round from his fast healing, so Durkon needs to keep laying the hurt on until everyone else gets down there. Divine favor is probably only giving a +2 or +3 to Durkon, so he's got to hit every round.

The good guys never outright win in this comic. Hell, killing Thog was a major success... eventually one side is captured/runs away and then gets away/returns.

It's kind of sad when killing a friendly orc man-child who's too dumb to realize he's in with the bad guys is a victory for the good guys, isn't it?

I guess I just assumed with the way Nale talked about it he was confirmed dead. Who knows, really.
No body, no death. Tarquin said he didn't want Thog on the team because he was too chaotic. Also, they said something about digging him out from under the rubble. No body, no death. We might see him again sometime.

Even if he's dead, who's to say they don't raise him? He was clearly a crowd favorite and it's not like anyone's going to know who won the match, considering Roy and them used the chaos to escape.
