[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Eventually, people get old enough to realize that wearing sunglasses all the time only makes them look like a tool.

It took awhile, but I like the new Brent. And I thought the transition was well done, with the entire cast being weirded out by it too.

So, the latest mostly enjoyable LARPing storyline isn't Scott's:

You don't know it, but you've secretly been enjoying some more of Dylan's work these last couple of weeks. Our current PvP storyline has all been a product of the combined efforts of myself and Dylan in the PvP writers' room. This larping story-arc is leading into some bold new changes with PvP. We're unafraid and eager to see where we can take this comic strip. It's exciting and scary and exhilirating, all at the same time.

So...PvP is no longer Kurtz, huh? He'll be Table Titans from now on?
You know, as much shit as we give Kurtz (myself included, it's fun) this could be the change he needs. He's been doing pvp for a long time, maybe he's feeling burnt out and wants new projects.

So it's only taken a week for this crook of a tastemaker to give someone else credit for their work?

I guess that's the only comment I need to make.

His tone of voice makes it sound like he was afraid people would not like it if they knew beforehand he hadn't written it.

Despite how everyone is taking the news, I feel the need to point out that he didn't say that Dylan wrote the strip, he said they worked on it together, and earlier in the news post was talking about how seeing Mike and Jerry in action has made him admire the collaborative writing process.

...Which is good, because now you can blame Kurtz for any elements you dislike while assuming Dylan is responsible for all the better parts. :p

Is she getting paid? Because seriously... she should probably be making more than Scott.
It seems so, the newspost also mentions her being paid for the first week she did for PVP, which implies she'd be paid now too.

Because when I think of Quality Writing (TM), the first name that comes to mind is Scott Kurtz.
But from his point of view, it would be, "I have put out this product for a decade and a half, suddenly I'm selling New Coke, so maybe if I see if they like it first..."

He mentions she was hired, so she was being compensated for her work, and hopefully she knew beforehand that they were going to sit on her involvement before announcing it.

This is cool.

Dylan wrote a great arc last time and an okay one this time, and I've been enjoying the hell out of Table Titans but for a few minor nitpicks.

I completely understand if Kurtz is tired with PVP. This month marks his 15 year anniversary.

The roadside is littered with abandoned projects. Remember Ding!, anyone? How quickly did his role on The Trenches change?

Okay, now I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, it's kind of a throwback to days of yore. On the other, it's just not original in the least. So I like it and don't. And it still looks like a team-building thing to me so I'm tilting towards -meh-.

It feels very *meh* to me as well. The pop-culture reference isn't developed enough to be parody, and doesn't have enough enough punch to feel like funny in-character snark. It's just there and it's not doing anything. I like the concept of Max being a "bad guy" again, and the overall story concept is a lot of fun, but a lot of the specifics have been lackluster.

I wonder if Scott hasn't realized that we all get the Return of the Jedi reference and he doesn't have to hammer it home in every strip by replaying out the Emperor's death scene completely. Is it supposed to be funny because it's all LARPing? If my DM pulled this blatant rip-off in a game I would slap him after five minutes. "I get it. Move on. Ass."

You have to admit, if it's not Scott writing this arc, at least they have the schedule down right! No Friday comic yet.

Why are there end quotation marks at the end of Lucille's speech bubble in the last panel? Its silly is what it is! As one of Irish descent I'm okay with killing the English language but still it confuses this one.

So...she really did print up her "evil" liquidation plan and take them to the LARP? What the fuck?

I think "LARPs are legally binding!" would have made a better punchline than "houppenlande".
Kati would like to point out that the costume in question is not a houppenlande, it is a cotehardie. Unless he is referring specifically to just the headgear, which would be a wimple.

FUCKIN' KNEW IT! She didn't say it was a test, but its clear it was. I will give them props for her not saying "You passed" but still, this plot was exTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMly cliche.
