Regular Show is the same way, in the first couple episodes even there's a spot here and there that's like "wait this isn't Adult Swim?"
You think Regular Show's adult, you should see the original pilot!

As for Adventure Time, yeah the show starts out slow but it really picks up as the show goes on. And Ice King is awesome, a character as hilarious as he is incredibly tragic.

Ok, that second one was hilarious. Regular Show is just an acid trip? That makes so much sense.

Thanks to Ice King, I can't flip over to an old episode of Cheers without getting depressed. That sentence shouldn't exist.

Me too, that was saaaaaaaaad. However thats also what makes the show great, they can have like a string of hilarious episodes and then BAM- emotion filling central. Like, Monk level emotion filling.

But not The Zeta Project, which was the Batman Beyond spin-off about the former assassin robot trying to evade the government.

Yeah, but considering I couldn't tell you anything about the show beyond it's premise I don't think that's a bad thing.

Hell I didn't even remember about that show until reading an episode description where he was mentioned.

Personally I've realized I missed out by not watching Regular Show, holy shit it's hilarious.
Regular Show was one of those shows that when I saw the previews, and thought "What is wrong with kids shows these days..."

Then I watched an episode one day while sitting at home, "Weekend at Benson's" The 1980s kid in me beamed up and said, "No.... It can't be..." followed by them knocking out Benson, putting sunglasses on him, and acting like he is awake. "Oh man they totally did..." My inner child smiled from ear to ear remembering those nights I stayed up watching "Weekend at Bernies." and those memories combined with the cartoon hooked me so hard.

After that I watched every episode and loved every minute of it. I read up on the creator and found out he is only 3 months older then me and both grew up in California. We probably had pretty similar childhoods, which may explain why I get the references and humor so well.

Regular Show is awesome, and I feel exactly the same way. That's... pretty much all I wanted to convey.

Yeah, we are going to a AD party on Sunday to watch some with folks. I'm trying to come up with a cocktail based on Tobias but I'm struggling with the name...

Not bad. I really want something that forces them to say something dirty anytime they ask for it but doesn't sound that dirty on it's own.

I must be missing something with Regular Show and Adventure Time. I find them irritating. I mean, yeah, I get it. Not being an idiot, I get what they're going for, and I see all the things you guys are pointing out, but it's all wrapped in an ADD shell that sounds like my mom trying to use the "cool" words back when I was a kid.

Duh it sounds like your mom trying to be cool, these shows are written by a bunch of 80s and 90s kids that are now adults themselves trying to pander to a new generation of youth. a quarter of the references and jokes are going to go over most kids heads, thus the wacky, spastic, ADD nature of the shows, which is what many kids will often find funny just by the nature of the slapstick. The rest is for the parents that have to watch the show too, because not all of us are just going to sit the kid in front of the TV and then walk away for a few hours. I appreciate that about them.

I mean hell, I still can't believe they made a successful show that can be watched by children of any age, in which the setting is 1000 years after nuclear war wiped out nearly everything on the planet leaving it a strange, mutated wasteland.

I do have to admit that I feel the same way as Fade about Regular Show, but Adventure Time is frequently a delight, especially given that I can watch it with a six and ten year old and we all get something out of it. I find it comparable to the old Looney Tunes cartoons that way.

My cousins love Adventure Time, but watching The Regular Show went over ... weird.

This was the first time my wife and I had seen it, and Mordecai and Rigby had to stop some giant bird thing. Climax of the episode, they call on some power, at which point The Touch begins playing, and they summon up all kinds of 90s paraphernalia like the Power Glove, Air Jordans, NES controllers, a robot that's shaped like the original Power Rangers series Megazord, etc. My wife and I were laughing our asses off, and my 10-year-old cousin looked back at us. "What? What is it? What's so funny?"
"Just a bunch of 90s stuff from when we were kids."
He goes back to staring at the screen, scene continues, laughter continues. He starts freaking out. "I don't UNDERSTAND." Staring at the screen. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT ANY OF THIS IS! WHY IS IT FUNNY?" Which only made us laugh harder and then he stormed out of the room.

That was the 100th episode. A lot of those items appear in older episodes, like the Maximum Glove, the PlayCo Armboy, Rocket Cola, and my favorite, the "I'm Eggscelant!" trucker hat. It was a total laugh riot. I also loved the fact they drove it inside a huge fanny pack.

I haven't seen much regular show, but I love Adventure Time because it surprises me with its heart. It's goofy one minute, and then it's touching and tragic the next. And yeah, they all sound a little square, but for me that's part of the charm.
