As I said previously, the ps1-ps2 era were really the first time that backwards compatibility even existed. It was a nice bonus, but only possible due to the downright archaic structure of the previous system and the new use of DVDs as a storage medium for games.
Actually, the Atari 3200 could play 2600 games too, so it's actually much older than you think.

In any case, what is going to happen is 10-15 years from now, someone is going to make something that can play these disk games all on one system, sort of like what is happening with these new NES/SNES/Genesis consoles that are coming out.

Also, here's another great .gif for the evening.

Trying to watch the Nintendo live stream and it's skipping really bad. Not that there is anything exciting so far. Just more lol pushing more release dates back.

Next Super Smash Brothers finally announced. Didn't see projected release date because feed locked up on me.

New Challengers: Animal Crossing Villager and Mega Man.[DOUBLEPOST=1370962143][/DOUBLEPOST]Joystiq is saying 2014 for Smash Bros. Saw on the feed it's for 3DS and WiiU. :sohappy:

Wind Waker HD to have faster sailing.

Mega Man is a perfect fit for the Smash Bros universe.

I actually kind of like that Nintendo's presentation is a direct video without bothering with all the financials (which of course aren't good this year), because it becomes all about the games and less about the unnecessary fluff of the typical press conference.

I just wish they hadn't underestimated the traffic on the feed, since it was nigh slide-show-esque.

I am slightly disappointed that the graphics still look like they came from the Wii but despite that I am excited for Mario Kart 8

More info on the new Pokemon game

There is a new Pokemon type that was announced. It is "fairy" type and it will be super effective against dragon type Pokemon.

There is also a new trailer for Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS.

Stopped into the dreaded GameStop on my hunt for Animal Crossing, bunch if people already pre-ordering a PS4.

I pre-ordered my copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf through Amazon a few months ago (because I had a $10 gift card) and sadly it still hasn't shipped out yet. :(

As far as pre-ordering a PS4 goes I sadly will have to wait and hope I can still get a pre-order at the end of the month when I get paid again.

I tried 4 places with no luck, so now I'm just gonna get the digital copies instead. (Yay for that being an option)

I know that Zelda game doesn't look original other than the wall walking mechanic, but I want it so bad.

I am so with you on that one.

On one hand it looks like the same game we have played a million times and yet I want it so bad I can practically taste it.

Nintendo's flagship franchises are so good it more or less warrents the purchase of their system even if the majority of the other games are shovelware crap--and it pisses me off. I'd be happy picking up just a PS4, but nooooo, I'd be missing out on Zelda and Smash bros and Mario. Damnit.

Not to mention Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Metroid, Kirby, and Star Fox just to name a few.

I sure as hell didn't get the WiiU to play Arkham City or AC3 ;)

I always think I don't care about Nintendo anymore since I don't like Smash Brothers, I'm awful at platformers like Mario, etc. But I also forget that Zelda makes me so excited/happy. Now I am tempted to buy a 3DS, dammit.

Also I do love Mario Kart.

Mario 3D looks pretty fun, and HKLAHGFKJHALJKHAGF;LKSGJHD MEGAMAN IN SMASH BROS.[DOUBLEPOST=1370979255][/DOUBLEPOST]Also cat Mario going NYAN NYAN fucking killed me.

Mega Man in Smash Brothers. Blech. That's your Mega Man announcement Capcom?

Stop putting him in mediocre fighting games and JUST MAKE A NEW FUCKING MEGA MAN!

I'm not sure I even want a new Mega Man at this point, seeing what Capcom has done with many of their other franchises.

Fuck that, putting him under the watchful eye of Nintendo means odds are he's going to be a fun character to play. Hell, every movement animation he had was ripped right out of the original series of games (jumping, sliding, etc). Capcom wouldn't have done that in any MM game they shit out at this point.

They almost did a dark and gritty Mega Man X reboot as a first person shooter. I'm not even shitting you. This was real and there is video to prove it.

A Mega Man FPS game isn't the worst idea I've ever heard (it worked for Metriod) but a dark and gritty reboot of an already dark series? It's like they don't understand that we want closure, not a new series.

The thing about the Prime series was that even though it had FPS elements to it, it was still at it's core a Metroid game. It was far more about traversal and power ups than combat.
