Video Game News and Miscellany

Not sure actually. I'll give it a try in a few days and report back to you.
Thanks. And I don't know if you have any original Wii games--I remember when we tried playing Wii Sports and Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition on the HD, they looked awful. I didn't even want to put Okami in and see it desecrated. So I'm wondering if the Wii U helps the original Wii games since it has to go through the HDMI cables now, or if they still look like garbage on HD. I don't want to bother with Skyward Sword when I get a Wii U if it's going to cause eye-bleed like a PS2 game on HD.

Considering that all it's doing is emulating a Wii, I doubt it's any better. The only Wii game I have played on the Wii U is Wii Fit Plus though, which isn't a good indicator of anything. Of course, I also have no issues with how Skyward Sword looks on the Wii so I might not be fit to comment. (We had an S-Video adapter for our Wii as well so *shrug*)

I had no issue with how Wii games looked until we got an HDTV. After that, N64, PS2, and Wii games looked stretched and hurt my eyes. Oddly, Gamecube games look just fine. I heard they used more graphic layers or something than the other consoles of that gen, but that doesn't explain the problem with the Wii stuff.

In other news, Index has filed for bankruptcy and Atlus's future is up in the air after all!

(I know, some other company will snap them up. Hopefully said company will let them keep doing their awesome thing.)

Did you get the component cable? I've noticed a huge difference using those and setting the Wii for progressive scan.

Yeah, if your using the normal RCA cable, your not getting HD. You need to use the component cable or get a Wii HDMI converter.

Well, you're not going to get HD with a component cable out of a Wii either, it's just that progressive scan in 480p will help smooth out some of the jaggies that occur when an HDTV upscales a 640x480 signal.

How on earth did Jack Keane get a sequel? That game was crap. The interface was horrible, the voice acting was bland, the story was almost nonsensical... Did I mention how awful the interface was? The puzzles and control in the game were like the developers hadn't played any adventure games after the first Monkey Island and had tried to modernize an adventure game all on their own without learning from any of the games released in the 18 years in between. ARGH!

I've never heard of the game, but looking up reviews, it reviewed pretty well. It currently has a 69 on metacritic.

This was brought up already. Pretty much everyone agreed that Atlus would be bought by someone in the ensuing sale of the company. Probably Square Enix or another Japanese company. Shin Megami Tensai is just too successful of a franchise to let it die.
Are we prepared for the dark future in which Atlus is an EA company?

I don't even know who to root for. Not EA. Square-Enix might let them do their own thing, but Square-Enix feels like a sinking ship. Nintendo is already doing the Fire Emblem crossover, so maybe.

I know it won't be the end of Atlus, but the uncertainty sucks.

Nintendo taking them in would be interesting. The could become Nintendo's Miramax, where Nintendo releases all their less family oriented titles under the Atlus label to avoid confusing the family friendly image Nintendo has crafted over the years.

I would love that. Nintendo's creativity without the censorship, plus all the awesome Atlus stuff we've been getting for years.

Not really news or anything but here's a side by side size comparison of the Ps4 and Xbox One. Really goes to show which of the two companies is primarily a hardware developer. PS4 has slightly beefier guts, swappable hard drive and has an internal power supply whereas the Xbox also comes with a power brick plug.

I was lucky enough to see both systems up close at E3, and the PS4 looked like I would be able to stick it somewhere on my already crowded entertainment center without too much trouble, while the Xbox One made me think that I would need to buy a new entertainment center first.

Seriously, either one of these systems could have gotten a pre-order from me if they had said they could replace my cable/satellite box. That space is actually worth something to me.

While I understand the sentiment behind what you're saying, the Xbox has the kinect sensor built in, whereas the PS4 doesn't have the internal camera. I'm willing to be that's the main factor in the size difference, so it's not like the Xbox is bigger with the exact same hardware inside (as your post suggests).

The kinect2 isn't built into the box, it's still a separate peripheral that plugs into it.

So far the graphics seem fine. I gave a few VC Wii titles a try on our HD 60'' and it looked great. Sonic the Hedgehog. Balloon Fight. Bubble Bobble. Comix Zone. Mario 64. All look great at that level of detail.

http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/double-fine-s-broken-age-being-split-in-half/1100-4684/

Broken Age, the Double Fine adventure game that was spectacularly funded last year needs even MORE money. The scope turned out to be much more than expected. The plan? Put it on Steam as an Early Access for people to buy ahead of time, release the first half in January (ish), the second half in April/May (ish).

And honestly? I'm really torn on the whole thing. I was under the impression that the game was nearly ready for launch, at least within the next few months. Now they need even MORE time and even MORE money? I mean, I backed them already, so it's not like I have a choice in the matter. Can't get my money back even if I don't like the idea.

But this whole kerfuffle is starting to turn what was one of the most promising and exciting Kickstarter projects into a disaster.
