Obama should NOT. Nor should anyone from any religion, with the possible exception of maybe Martin Luthor King, Jr, but he'd be there for civil rights, not the religious angle.[DOUBLEPOST=1374698398][/DOUBLEPOST]
Can we just start renting out that space for celebrities and companies?

I certainly can't think of a single U.S. religious figure that deserves to be recognized in such a way.

I think Bill Clinton should be on the $1 bill, to be placed into the g-strings of strippers.[DOUBLEPOST=1374698950][/DOUBLEPOST]I also agree with Drawn_Inward and OC. I should be on our money.

*Scot.

Walt Whitman doesn't get a mention? For shame... And if you include Poe, might as well toss in Lovecraft, too.
It was a quick list, sir. I know I have left out tons of great writers: Steinbeck, Thoreau, Stowe, Dickinson, Melville, Faulkner.....

However, Lovecraft >= Poe? Nope. :zoid:

I agree with not putting up anyone because of their religion, but I really don't think there needs to be an exception made simply because someone who did great things did it as part of their religion. What about Fred "Mr." Rogers? I think some of his work on children's television has done more to shape the youth of this nation than many others. He did it as a Presbyterian minister, and even had a special commission from the church to do so, but he, arguably, had even less overt religious messages in his teaching than MLKjr did.

I'm sorry, I don't care how good a neighbor he was, we can't have Mr Rogers on our money.

I can't believe any of you didn't mention the most obvious choice. There's only ONE man in the past or present that should be on American money.

Wayne motherfucking Brady.

I made a list of every influential American I could think of whose contributions were not only noteworthy but laudable. I feel like you could take any name off this list, immortalize them on our currency, and have it be a worthy choice. In (somewhat) random order:
  • George Washington
  • Mark Twain
  • John Adams
  • John Marshall
  • Susan B. Anthony
  • FDR
  • Alfred Hitchcock
  • Martin Luther King, Jr
  • The Wright Brothers
  • Teddy Roosevelt
  • Andrew Carnegie
  • Jackie Robinson
  • Walt Disney
  • Frederick Douglass
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Earl Warren
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Louis Armstrong
  • Walt Witman
  • Lewis and Clarke
  • Ronald Reagan
  • Stephen Spielberg
  • Elvis
  • Bill Gates
  • Henry Ford
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Elizabeth Cady Stanton
  • Thomas Paine
  • Andrew Jackson
  • James Madison
  • Alexander Hamilton
  • George Gershwin
  • Sandra Day O'Connor
  • Cesar Chavez

In all seriousness though why anyone other than a president? I'm pretty happy with who we have on our coinage already, except for that one dude on the half dollar that almost started a nuclear war and did start one of the worst wars in the US.

I just like the idea of having other folks on money besides politicians. Maybe it would make kids think about literature and science a bit more, thus more science and art funding in the future. Wishful thinking?

Put whatever you can on the currency to make it collectible. Foil Pokemon cards for all I care.

Just make it valuable and attractive.

I second putting Pokemon on money.

1 dollar: Ratatta
5 dollars: Pikachu
10 dollars: Chansey
20 dollars: Snorlax
50 dollars: Dragonite
100 dollars: Mewtwo
