Honestly? I think it's supposed to. The writer in the movie has a very overbearing, controlling, possessive personality even before Ruby comes into the picture. Like where he gets upset at the idea that the therapist's bear was possibly used by someone else. Everything else was a natural progression that only got worse and worse.
I agree, but it doesn't make me want to watch the movie again or say that it's good because it made me feel that way.
So Kevin McKidd played alternate Batman in Flashpoint Paradox.
Only Andrea Romano would cast the most Scottish man on Earth not named Sean Connery and have him voice act an American accent in probably the second most important role in the movie.
If you don't know him, he played Lucius Vorenus in Rome and was the lead in the rad short lived Journeyman.

Today was a day of "meh" movies for me. I watched The Flashpoint Paradox, The Amazing Burt Wonderstone, and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.
Flashpoint. Better than the comics, but still kind of blah to me.
Wonderstone. I don't recall laughing a single time during the entire movie, but I didn't think it was terrible.
Hansel and Gretel. If you can get over the premise that is beyond stupid, it's a pretty OK flick.

I think I only laughed at Alan Arkin. The rest was pretty lame. I would recommend skipping it. CGI magic.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: Way more fun than I remember. I don't know why it was boring the last time I watched it (probably 6 years ago), maybe I just wasn't in the mood. Watched it with my wife the other night and had a blast.
Burt Wonderstone was pretty mediocre, but like. Smile-worthy.

Now You See Me was totally the best magic-based movie of the year
I was way super surprised with Now You See Me. It was incredibly above expectations and really fun, great cast, and geez, with all the dour shit this summer, it was probably the most fun movie of the year for me.
I watched The Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2. It was incredibly faithful to the comic book for the most part. I hated the voice for the Joker, though.
After watching it, all I could think was... "Why the hell did Frank Miller have to go all crazy pants?"
All you have to do is compare TDKR to The Dark Kinght Strikes Again to see how horrible his work has gotten.

I know, the art looks like 1st grade water colors! This was not art expected from the guy who made freakin' "Ronin"! Which also needs a movie like yesterday however Frank would probably want to direct and would have the same look as Sin City as how he ruined "The Spirit". How sad is it that I'm not even confident he could make a good film adaptation of his own work now?
I wasn't too keen on Robocop doing the voice of Batman either. I thought TAS nailed it with Michael Ironside doing the voice of the Miller future Batman in their parody/homage.
Ironside's voice is fantastic. I never thought I'd like anyone but Robert Stack as Ultra Magnus, but Ironside is killing it on Transformers Prime.
As for movies, watched GI Joe: Retaliation. It was actually not bad. Much better than the first, and as usual Dwayne Johnson's just awesome.
Yeah, he was perfect for the Miller Batman, though weird seeing as he also voiced Darkseid.
Evil Dead (2013)
This flick seeemd to get a lot of positive reviews and I can definitely see why. Is it similar to Raimi's Evil Dead? Only in name, settting, and story set up. There are little nods (some that are incrediby subtle and clever) to the originals, but overall, this is an entirely new beast. It takes the original Evil Dead's idea that the original flick was supposed to be scary, amplifies it, and really does some great stuff with it.
I didn't think it was scary, but I'm very desensetized to horror flicks. But I won't deny that there were some really great creep out moments.
The cool thing is that it sort of keeps making you guess who will be the "Ash" character and it winds up not even really having an "Ash" character. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the direction the movie took in the last 10 minutes or so.
Is it great or something as memorable as Raimi's flicks? Eh, I'll have to admit that no, it isn't. But it's worth at least one watch.

I went and saw The Wolverine today. It was... OK. It was miles better than X-men Origins: Wolverine, though that wouldn't take much. It kept my interest, but didn't leave any real lasting impression. If you're really into the comic love story between Woverine and Mariko, you will probably bristle at many of the changes, such as the Hand not really existing (well kind of/ sort of).
Why the hell they turned Viper into a mutant snake lady is beyond me. Definitely sounds like a decision made by someone unfamiliar with the source material. I can totally see some suit saying "Why the hell is she called Viper if all she does is shoot guns?"

I just watched this as well, I was very surprised at how good it was. I agree it wasn't very "scary" but it was very INTENSE. I'm very interested in them tying the worlds together though, I assume you caught the stinger at the very end? GAVE ME CHILLS.

Supposedly Sam Raimi wants to do an Army of Darkness sequel, and then they want to do an Evil Dead (2013) sequel, and then they want to have a movie where Ash and Mia team up.
I watched the new Karate Kid yesterday, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I think it's a good example of how to do a remake without either ignoring source material and just sharing names, or leaving the audience wondering why they didn't just watch the original film. Instead we're given a nice retelling of the original story with updates that make sense for the new cast and setting, with nods to the original that never feel like the director is just copying scenes.
If you've seen the original you pretty much know whats going on. Most of the major story beats are there, so you're not going to be surprised by what happens, but the story was clearly rewritten around the setting, actors and time period, which keeps things from being stale. Jackie Chan's Mr. Hon is clearly not a WWII veteran, and with the movie set in China, his tragedy doesn't involve US internment camps. It's those kinds of differences that help make the movie seem fresh and worthwhile.
The biggest issue I had with the movie revolves around some of the requirements that were made in order to film the movie in China. For example did you know that Beijing hosted the Olympics? Because look it's the Olympic village! Here's a seen in the Forbidden City, look training montage scene on top of the great wall. There are several scenes and shots that really feel like they were financed by the Chinese tourism industry, and are largely unnecessary to the movie.
If you liked the original I feel comfortable in saying that you can watch this movie and find enjoyment, and if you've never seen the original you can watch this movie and not feel like you're missing things. Unless of course you're hung up on the fact that the movie uses Kung Fu and is called the Karate Kid. If that's the case there's no helping you, except maybe for the fact that the Chinese title is Kung Fu Dream.

The best adjective I've heard / said regarding Evil Dead is that it's relentless. It just. Never lets up the intensity.

I think Gilgamesh suggested it in an earlier page. It's an okay movie, IMO. A little dry. The voice over became a bit tedious. Despite the short runtime, it didn't feel like there was enough content for it. There was some decent creepiness, but overall it kind of fell flat. They could have built up the creepiness a bit more.

It would have been nice if they had Leon working around that statue and/or sleeping in the same room with it for a number of days before he watched the video. It would have had a bit more impact. A slower build up to the craziness and then a bit more extended climax would have made it a bit better.
I had a different take on it than Gilgamesh. I saw it more like this is what happens with mental illness + weird cult + loneliness + child abuse. Being indoctrinated in a religion should not make someone hallucinate. It may cause some irrational fears/actions. Mental illness or drugs cause hallucinations.
I was actually quoting the writer and director's direction of the film. They specifically made it as an
anti-religion using religion
Based on this thread, I gave Evil Dead a shot (I was extremely against the remake even being made in the first place). I have to say that it was a pretty damn good horror flick. It maintained a great atmosphere throughout and didn't rely on cheap jumpscares. While being gory, it wasn't torture porn which was one of my main concerns.
Yeah, I have a friend on Facebook that keeps calling it torture porn. I just don't know how to respond to him because, well, I haven't seen a lot of torture porn movies outside of the Saw movies, so I don't really know the definition of it. But I'm pretty sure this wasn't.
Torture porn is movies such as Hostel, Wrong Turn, Cabin Fever, etc. I've only seen the first Saw and I would not put it in the torture porn category. Torture porn is a movie that isn't about being scary or atmospheric, but simply about disgusting you and mistaking that for the aforementioned scare. It's what happens when incompetent storytellers think that gore is the only thing that scares people in horror movies.
