Ha ha ha, in high school a buddy of mine had to quit playing FF8 because Quistis was the video game/anime-ish equivalent to the girl that had just broken his heart. She looked eerily similar.

My first thought was Space Station Sillicon Valley, but I never played it so I don't know if the plot matches, and it came out in 1998.

Dammit! I actually guessed that, but when I went to Wikipedia to see if there was a teacher involved, I couldn't find anything about one (and I have never played it except for the one 20min trampoline-filled session at Funcoland when it was released), so I figured that wasn't it. I was actually looking it up to figure if it was Day of the Tentacle or Zombies ate my Neighbors, just based on their reputations.
