Video Game News and Miscellany

but the hardcore Xbox fans will buy it.
I wouldn't have believed this if I had gotten all my info online, but in person I've met so so many people who have openly said they're going to get one, despite the issues that were first announced simply because they're -Xbox people-.

I gotta admit, back in the day with PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii---I bought a wii first. I wanted Zelda, Smash brothers and Mario. After I got those, I kind of regretted not buying an Xbox because that's where all the cool games were. I eventually got one in China and rarely ever played the Nintendo again. It's one of the reasons that I'm still iffy about not picking up an Xbox One because I'm wondering if I'd be making the same mistake twice.

About the only interesting exclusive they've shown so far is Dead Rising 3 and -I- know that's going to be on PCs within 2-3 years. Because it's Capcom and that's sort of their thing. Everything else seems to be multi-console.

I already have the best Xbox there is. My PC :p

For serious, there are so few Xbox exclusives that I have no reason to get one. I'm pretty much feeling the same way about the PS4 as well. Nintendo is the only company that has exclusives I'm really interested in.

PS has the exclusives that keep me coming back.

There's going to be more epic games like Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain:
Fun games like Guacamelee, Dragon's Crown,
Challenging games like Dark/Demon Souls,
Role playing games like Ni No Kuni, Tales of Xilia, Valkryia Chronicles

and more to come. Do some of the games come to PC? Yep. As often as Xbox? Nope. I'm very excited to see what comes out of Playstation this coming generation.

Well, Guacamelee is on PC, Dark Souls too but otherwise, yeah, Playstation has the exclusives I generally want to play.

Though neither console has anything that I'm THAT interested in enough to purchase one of their launch consoles.

I'll fully admit that I'm a sucker for the Nintendo exclusives. From Mario to Metroid. And those are exclusives that will never be ported to PC.

Just please god, let them release a proper Metroid game, not this Other M bullcrap.

That's the thing though...BESIDES the exclusives, Nintendo doesn't seem to offer much else besides shovelware crap. In some ways it's worth the price but...eh....again, I'm still feeling burned on the Wii.[DOUBLEPOST=1377322620,1377322529][/DOUBLEPOST]And the Wii-U has been out for a little while, right? Almost a year now. Hardly anyone around here bothers talking about it.

Mostly because the smart money is on the 3DSXL atm as far as Nintendo systems go.

Like I said, create a Wii U + 3DS game compatability and I'd buy a Wii U.

It's been so long since there's been a good Metroid game. SO FUCKING LONG.

It and Mario Galaxy are the only two Nintendo franchises I still care about.

I still remember my first playthrough of the Metroid Prime games. To this day I don't think I've ever felt so immersed in a game's atmosphere. I think they're better than Super Metroid, in all honesty.

One of these days I need to go back and get the Wii remakes of Prime 1 and 2. I only made it about half way through Prime on the GC, but the Wii controls were simply perfect for the series.

This news is about a month and a half old, but I just found out Pokemon Global Link is shutting down for Pokemon BW and BW2 on January 14, 2014. Just a few months from now. They're prepping for a new Global Link for Pokemon X and Y.

This means no more Dream World for the generation 5 games. Which kinda sucks, because I've only recently gotten into Dream World, and have finally managed to establish a decent score in it. Now I have very little motivation to continue playing it, knowing my progress will be wiped out in a few months.

I'm probably going to try to get some of the more useful Dream World pokes, like Marvel Scale Dratini or Magic Guard Abra, then quit Dream World altogether.

Why would they shut them down so soon after releasing Black and White 2?
Maybe combining the gen 5 and gen 6 global links would've been too complicated, or taken too much in resources such as manpower or bandwidth.

Or maybe they want to use every means possible to get people to buy X and Y.

I can confirm that for Plants VS Zombies, other than 1 plant, you do NOT need to do that Free to Play purchases.

THIS is how you do free to play. The idiots will still buy shit, so the developers get money, the rest of us will have an entire game to play through. It's fantastic.

Yeah but I'm already getting tired of the star bullshit. And the randomly appearing keys. It's fine...I guess. I dunno.

Really? I'm just playing through it and it feel like keys and starts are just given out like candy. Seems to me you have to be pretty awful at this game to have to purchase anything other than the one plant they don't have in normal game play.

Which plant are you talking about anyhow? I finished the first world including getting the 15-20 stars required to open to the gate to the last stage. Now I'm replying all the levels over and over again so I can get all the keys required to unlock each little gate so I can get each upgrade. Of course, getting the last remaining 4 or 5 keys is a chore because I have no friggin clue where/how/when they might drop. I've 3-starred a couple of the levels already just searching around.

Virtue's Last Stand, the sequel to 999 (Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors) is on the 3DS eshop for $25. I checked Amazon and the physical copy is still $40. I'm hoping this is because Aksys is acknowledging that digital costs less than physical and they're passing that onto the consumer (as opposed to games like Ultimate Scribblenauts where the physical copy is less than half of the digital).

Contemplating getting Virtue's Last Stand. I loved 999.

It's basically a cheap, for real young kids, handheld.

The only problem is the games for 3DS are not cheap enough to warrant buying a cheap handheld for real young kids.

I hate double analog sticks so much that I hope Nintendo never gets them. (This is why I almost never use our PS3, I'd rather keyboard/mouse than have to use double sticks. ;) )
I'm actually worried that Monster Hunter 4 is going to be completely unplayable without the second stick and thus encourage Capcom to go back tot he Vita.

Dreamcast, the best console ever created, only needed one analog stick.

But it had analog triggers too.
All the current consoles have analog triggers (well, I don't know if the Wii-U does).

And the Dreamcast is only the greatest console to people who wear the rosiest of glasses.[DOUBLEPOST=1377712325,1377711937][/DOUBLEPOST]The Wii-U not-basic is now 50 bucks cheaper, also, the 50 dollar cheaper Basic version has been phased out.

The Wii-U is now the exact same price it was and is still too expensive.

My issue with this is they still like to remind you you can buy stuff. I know I'm never going to, I just don't want to be nagged or reminded (I have no idea if PVZ2 does this, just that almost all of these games do) that I can. It takes me out of the game. It makes me like your game less. If microtransactions are advertised in a game, I don't want any part of it. You're letting me know I'm wasting my time with your game and that I could be taking an easier (and more costly) route. I hate that. I really do.

I will give you 10-20 bucks for your game. Let me do that.

This just reminds of how when I was a kid, my brother was the one who got video game consoles as a kid even though I was the one who used them. I don't know *why* it made me think of that. This only changed once I was sent to the store to buy myself what I wanted for Christmas and I came home with a Playstation and FF7. The only thing I ever played on the Dreamcast was Crazy Taxi though.
